New RX-8 in 2008.

This is exactly what I thought. I'm not sure why everyone is assuming great things just because of a stoppage.

I've seen a bunch of people state numbers that I think just are not going to happen. The numbers keep getting lower and lower, but your 2600 lbs is about the lowest I've seen. That's like a Lotus Elise (not quite, my bad). I think a more realistic number for a Kabura/RX7 rotary would be more like 2850 lbs.
Mid to low 13's? I bet the new rotary will clock in a high 13. And I bet it will be a little under 300 HP for 2010.

I did read the article and I felt like I was reading speculation from this board to go along with the touched up Kabura that was supposedly an artist's rendering. Not to mention this article was posted on November 8th, 2006; not the most recent of information!

Its called overstock. They overbuilt for demand.
Even when they were building the FC they did that. They would shut the RX-7 production down for 3 months at a time and augment 323/familia production instead.
In the states is was rare to find dealers that even had a RX-7 in early January because they had stopped making north American models for that long. It lets the dealers catch up with demand, and blow out the year end overstock.

Mazda have never actually stopped making RX-8's (apart from Ujina Paint Plant Fire).
There has been production every month, albeit a small quantity, up until Mazda changed their Production Reporting (Mazda Media Site) this year, no one knows the numbers...I am guessing 5-700 a month.

The US is taking 500 plus cars a month at the moment. There might be another 500 shipped to the rest of the world. We are heading into the northern winter so sales of the RX-8 will drop off (as sports car sales do in winter months).
I don't see a great demand or need to overstock.

I can confirm what Gomez said about the production Halt of the RX-8 as I have received an email reply today from the GM of Mazda Australia Mr. Doug Dickson from an email I sent him a week ago...
He did not mention anything about an Updated or New RX-8 as I did not ask him and I doubt he would have offered any specifications or details, also the RENESIS II news had not broke at the time I originally emailed him.
Here is part of his reply...
"It will be possible to order a Mazda RX-8 for delivery in June next year and perhaps even May as (apart from the Anniversary model) production of RX-8 resumes next April."
IMO I now believe when the production resumes it will be an updated RX-8, will it have the rumored RENESIS II, what are the new changed features or specifications...I do not know...
The good news is that the RX-8 still lives and that 2008 will be the year I finally have my new 2008 RX-8 parked in my garage.!!... Roll on 2008!

Consensus on Renesis II
As a prospective buyer, this is all very encouraging, although the net effect means I'm less likely to buy an 8 sooner.
Is there any consensus on the Renesis II?
1. Direct injection seems definite?
2. Some mention larger displacement but are most people skeptical of this?
3. Hybrid?
4. Electrical assist turbo??
5. NO ENGINE MODIFICATIONS UNTIL 2010 (most likely?)
Is there any consensus or really good sources of rumors or are we all just speculating or merely engaging in wishful thinking?

Mind you, Mazda likes to step outside the box, so there's just enough possibility to give the fizz of excitement about a new engine next year.
At the very least it'll be interesting to see what the facelift will comprise...
