New RX-8 mileage and...
Took my new RX-8 down Ortega Hwy in Orange County (a nice challenging road in SoCal) and added in some interstate driving as well to check my fuel economy. Bottom line was an average of 18mpg for the trip. Estimate 70% of my driving was on Ortega (lot's of shifting and accelerating/braking) -- so I guess 18mpg was better than I expected given what I've read on this forum.
In addition, I followed (and passed of course!) two new Chrysler 300C sedans and a new Dodge Magnum wagon. These cars were being test-driven, I assume by factory folks -- they're not due out until the end of 2004 I believe. Bottom line is yech! 300C looks like a throwback to the '70s -- huge chrome grille, front and back ends don't belong together. Magnum wagon looks plasticky and just overall unattractive. Dodge says the car is suppoesed to be a sporty wagon for men (!)... Overall, sad display of American design...
