New RX-8 owner!
Hey everyone!
I just traded in my 2001 S2000 for a 2004 VR RX8 (GT) 6 speed.
I LOVE IT!!! its a dream. i have read through most of the stickies (been lurking for some time).
Its a step closer to one day owning a mint rx7, but the rx8 was just more practical for me at this time.
one thing i noticed, when i let off the clutch, i can hear a spinning/course noise (not very loud) from under the car. when i depress the clutch, the noise goes away all together. since this was the first rx8 i had driven, i do not know if that is possibly a bad through out bearing, or if it was normal.
Anyways, Im new here and will be here often. and look out for me around Chicago and Carbondale IL ( covering north and south ends of the state. ha)

I don't think it's the throw out bearing. Bad throw out bearings make a growling noise when you depress the clutch pedal. Our RX-8s make the soft grind when the gear is in neutral and the clutch is engaged. I believe it's just the gears in the transmission turning in neutral.

thanks all :D i bought it from Oak Lawn Mazda in IL. They sell alot of rx8s and a few of the employees have rx7s and rx8s them selves so i hope they are a fairly competent rotary friendly dealership.
i love the car, it begs to be driven.
i am the second owner of the car, and it seems to me that the previous owner took really good care of it. all the recalls have been performed and all the fluids seem to be new. it drives well, just a slight shaky (though the gear shifter) at idle, but then again my s2000 was rough at idle too. i asked the service advisor at mazda and he said he has never seen an rx8 with a perfectly smooth idle. ::shrug:: i did a search and people said to check engine mounts, coils/plugs, etc. and mine seem all fine, so i guess its just me being paranoid. oh and i still have about another year of factory warentee on the 04 :D Up in may 2009

The RX8 is rough at idle normally. If you think it gets too out of hand then your RPMs might be too low, and have the dealer check it out, but I think youre just feeling the same thing I did when I first got mine. I thought it was running bad or something but the guys here helpfully told me it was normal, just make sure youre above 800 I think it was...
