New RX-8 Owner

New RX-8 Owner
I bought an RX-8 about a week ago. I had driven a few AT models, but I like a MT in a car like this. It is an 04' six-speed, Tit. Gray with the Touring Package... I think. It is loaded with everything I think is available minus a spoiler and the GPS package. Supposedly it has the "special" paint treatment, which I'm thinking is a speacial type of clear coat or something. They had a car in the show room with one side of a hood treated and the other not treated. They urged me to feel both. It sounded like a plus.
Note to self, do not take my seven year old daughter car shopping. I'm test driving the car with her in the back seat. She tells me after a minute down the road to buy the car and just give the salesmen the money. Said salesman is in the passenger's seat. I didn't look, but he very well have been wringing his hands together counting his commission. I still haggled and got the price down where I wanted it, but I told her to let daddy do the talking in regards to the sales. BTW, we have other vehicles that are kid friendly... most notably a loaded Town & Country with tons o space.
My wife even likes the black-n-red leather interior, which in itself is a little shocking. On another positive note, my golf bag does fit in the trunk.... although it is tight getting it in. Overall we are enjoying it, my only complaint is that I wish I got to drive it more. My wife takes it every chance she gets. Wherever the car goes, it always gets a few Ooohs and Ahhhs or positive comments. My wife did hear a comment about "the mid-life crisis car over there", but at 29 and 30... we are hardly having a mid-life crisis. We just like to have a "fun" car around.
Having never owned a rotary car before, I have been trying to read up on the engine. I will also be looking for a repair manual. Does anyone suggest one? IE. Chilton, Haynes or is there an official Mazda service manual?
I just wanted to briefly drop in and give a intro of sorts.

Official Mazda service manual, is really the only way to go. A little pricey but will worth it in the long run. If your a DIY type don't bother with anything else. Also as a sidd note....... let the warrenty run out first. ; )

Congrats! I took the kids when I did the final negotiations. I think the chaos helped a bit, myself. I've had a lot of the mid-life crisis comments as well, but I'm almost 40 in a screaming yellow car so....
Haynes still doesn't have a manual out, which is too bad since I lived out of that for my other cars.
Have a blast, break it in right and welcome to the club!

Wait, a well thought out and cohesive first post, without spelling and grammatical mistakes? And you didn't even ask how much Hp you can get from intake and exhaust? You sure you're on the right forum?
I kid. There's plenty to learn, and a great owners' community here. You can learn just about anything you want to know about the 8 in the different subsections, and tons about bodily functions in the lounge. Congrats and enjoy.

Thank you for the welcome. This isn't my first car club/board experience. I was actually an "expert" and moderator for another car club/board previously. Of course that translates to zilch here. I am well aware of the irritants, i.e. intake and exhaust questions in regards to Hp. I don't know the answer for an RX-8, but it probably isn't much... and much less than K&N (manufactures in general) claims in my experience. Furthermore, I promise to never ask how I can mod my exhaust pipes to shoot out flames.... promise!
Good luck on the search for the yellow MT 8.
