new rx8 freak

I bought my v-red 6-speed SP Rx8 last week. It's in my garage today since its raining....but for 3 days, what a blast to drive!!

I'm not sure if any of you car freaks can top my quirkiness. I traded a 2001 Grand Prix special edition for the Rx8. The GP was waxed EVERY WEEK (with Collinite #845)....including under the hood and trunk and door jams. Oil changed every 1500 miles with Mobil1 Synthetic. I had 3 sets of aftermarket floormats in the car (on top of the originals).....man....I need help!

After getting the RX8 they gave me a coupon for a free oil change. I told them to take the car back to the service dept and change the oil now. They looked at me strange, but did the oil change. When I got the car home I washed it and waxed it twice!!! This car couldn't have found a better home!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone on the board for all the valuable info!!!!!!

Is washing / waxing the new paint that much good for it? I'd wash and wax mine every week, but someone told me it was bad for the new paint.

I heard something like that also. but the way i understand it. washing/ waxing is ok every week or so. it is just bad if you use am abrassion like a rubbing compound or a buffer every week then it will wear down the paint. but plain soap and water and wax by hand is fine.

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but in the days before these new "environmentally friendly" paints, every new paint job needed time to cure before you could wax it - many weeks I believe.

You are going to save a lot of money on oil changes. Synthetic every 1500 miles, that's crazy.
