New Rx8 Help
Hi i just got an 09' Rx8. Been wanting to get one for the longest of times and its finally here..
I would just like to ask a couple of questions, so that i know how best to treat the car:
i) Is there a certain mileage the car has to reach before i can do any aggressive driving? Certain cars have to reach a certain mileage before u can drive at speeds above 80km/h etc.. Will this be an issue with the Rx8?
ii) I dont really get the part where u have to warm the engine up.. Do i have to warm the engine up everytime i want to drive, or do i just have to limit the RPM till the engine reaches optimum temperature?
Thanks for the help.. I really want to make this car last as long as possible, if not forever!! (This is a special car for me, compared to any other cars in the world)
=)

1) your manual should say how many miles/km to wait but i believe it's 1000 miles.
2) the problem with the warmup isn't warming it up - it's shutting down cold and moreso with the first gens.
these questions have been answered so check out the sticky threads.

1. the manual says how many miles you have to drive before you can really push the car. Also, racing beat has a break in procedure on their website that you can follow, but you don't have to.
2. As for warming up the car, get in it, turn it on, put your seatbelt on, find your favorite radio station, and go. Just keep the revs under 4k.
3. Never shut the car off cold. Otherwise you could flood the engine. Drive the car around the block a couple of times to warm it up.

The Quick Tips guide gives the details on short trip warmup and shutdown.
Owner's manual says to let it run for ten seconds before driving.
Remember that the water temperature gauge reaches normal (and it's safe to shut down a rotary) well before the car is warmed up enough to drive hard. That's true for any car. The only way to really know if a car is warmed up is to have an oil temperature gauge.
Personally, I like to have a car for at least 2000 to 3000 miles before I consider it to be broken in. And I believe in gentle running during break in, upping the rpm limit every few hundred miles.
Special for all of us. Take care of it, and have a blast!

What's your real question Spacecoast? I know you are close by me....ya have to be!
Anyway, you should check the oil every two fill-ups of gas and try to keep the oil near the full mark. Overfilling is just as bad. I know it's new, but I would do your own oil changes. Just keep good records and reciepts for warranty purposes.
Don't check your oil based on mileage you have gone, until you really, really get familiar with your car.
Actually...........since you have the original oil in there from the dealer, I would do an oil change now and then every 3k after that.
After that....read your manual, there is lots of good info in there, then read what are called the stickies on this site. There's lots to learn in there as well. I wish the stickies were a little easier for the newcomers to locate though.
