im a muscle car guy. but i love the rx8 looks sporty fun. wanna get into one. and my friend wants to trade me his rx8 (2006 50k miles black 6 speed manual.) for my 68 mustang. and im going to....well thinking about it. ive heard the horrors of these cars. every forum i look at, people engines are failing like nobodies business advice on this used mazda? this would be my daily driver. its only been driven 3000 miles since january. but he drove it to my house today

 

Just like any other car. Take care of it and it will take care of you. I've always been a muscle car guy as well, coming from an 02 ws6 and a ctsv but the light weight and handling of the rx8 are super addicting.

i mean do u think its a good trade? and 50k miles...i dunno if its been broken in right or the engines screwed up

 

Hard to say without knowing the condition/story of your mustang and the condition/story of the rx8. What's your mustang worth? Perhaps you could take the 8 to a local mazda mechanic and have them look it over. If it's a friend that you trust wouldn't he tell you the condition of the car straight up?

 

Hes not a close friend. he says no problems nothing wrong at all. hes a pretty honest guy. has it for sale for 14k.
Mustang is 289 brand new rebuild engine. and Trans. no mileage on either. good paint. silver blue stripes. its a coupe. popular year. but coupes arent in major demand. only problems with it. small rust hole in one floor pan. its been wire brushed and undercoated so no more rust. its got a tiny bit of body work i do believe . Some bondo.

rx8 hes only had since january. driven it 3000 miles. its his 2nd car so he doesnt ever drive it. No problems. he changed oil twice since hes had it.

 

Sounds like a decent trade to me. If the 8 is really in good condition I think you would be happy with the trade and I say go for it, but it's not my mustang that you're trading.

 

unsure about the trade value. But, follow this list for things to check:
-get compression test at a mazda dealer/ shop
-see if you can get a hold of service records (you'll need them for warranty)
