new rx8 owner

At least give him the best way to go about it bse
The best way to search this forum:
RX-8 Club has tons of information on hand. And I mean tons. Literally. Add up the weight of everyone's brain, and it will be several tons. Collectively, we know more than any one dealership, tech, repair shop, or spec manual. However, as usual, the information doesn't all sit in one place, it doesn't sit in one head, and we have our idiots, our morons, our ********, our kids, our jerks, and our literary incompetents. Just like any forum. Fortunately, we have relatively fewer of those than most other car communities out there. But they still exist.
We also have a Search button, and a Search function for the board, but it isn't very good. It removes words that it sees as common or two short, but are a critical part of the search. It doesn't allow for search by relevancy, as in real relevancy. You mostly have to do alot of hunting and pecking in the search results to come up with what you might be looking for.
Add the two above issues together, and you can easily take all day to find only bad information.
But I have good news! You can improve your results and search speed by up to 15% by switching to Google!
As in Google.com.
Go to Google.com, and in the search box, type: site:rx8club.com
Then a space.
Then start typing what you are looking for.
Like this:
RX8Club.com search via Google
Your Google search results will be ONLY from this forum, and it will use all the power and intelligence of the best search engine in the world.
I still use that function nearly every day between RX8Club.com, Miata.net, and Mazdas247.com. So if you have a question that you think is common, give that search method a try, sit back with your beverage of choice and start reading

Welcome to the madness! I just got mine about a month ago and I'm already addicted! its a very fun car to drive.
A few suggestions from a fellow rx8 rookie:
1. First thing you wanna do is read the new owner sticky! its very informative!
2. if you bought used, change the oil and oil filter (I usd K&N oil filter and OEM oil) (keep all your receipts)
3. coolant flush (I used OEM coolant)
4. get yourself some redline MT-90 for the tranny(manual) and 75W90 for the diff. the difference is night and day! shifts are much smoother and the tranny is just overall happier.
5. get the clutch pedal issue resolved (I installed the raceroots reinforcement bracket) also an improvement in drivability.
A word of advice: don't rely on the traction control to save you from mistakes. Four days after I got my eight I did a 90 degree turn out of a stop sign and tried to tail slide it thinking the TC would stop me from doing something stupid and ended up with the two right wheels off the road and into the grass causing the underside to come into contact with the edge of the road.... I was VERY lucky and got away only with a bent cross member (50 dollar repair). Now I've learned how to tail slide it safely on any corner (WITH DSC ON, you should never turn it off unless you are in a controlled environment
also, beware of cops also 4 days after I got my 8 I got pulled over for "reckless driving" and got a warning. according to the cop I broke 8 traffic violations but I really just forgot to put on my turn signal but before that I revved to 9k out of a stop light (just cleaning the engine) without going over the speed limit, and then switched lanes rather fast, so it looked like I was driving faaast.

You got alot of reading to do my friend. Everyone seems to have their own opinions regarding premixing and synthetic oil. Do your research and draw your own conclusions. I don't premix but just installed the Sohn omp adapter and use idemitsu rotary premix and I use Royal Purple 5w 30 engine oil. Prior to getting my new engine installed in June I simply used Castrol GTX 5w 20 and changed every 3000 miles.
