new rx8 owner in cleveland

hello all. well i just bought my first rx8 last week and so far i love the car, its now my second favorite car i have ever owned. nothing beats my first car, 1971 olds cutlass that i put a 455 in. never lost a race and that car could move!! had to sell it to pay off all the court fines and BMV fines i got with it. when i sold the car i had over 100 points on my liscence from speeding, driving under suspension, wreckless op (racing) and just being crazy with the car. i can see a repeat of the past happening now with this car. gonna try and keep it under 80 though most of the time but thats gonna be hard to do.

i found this site earlier this week and am just now able to finally make my first post. sorry if this is in the wrong place but i couldnt find an introduction area for new members.

over the past week i have been lurking around the site and found out a great deal about my new 8. btw its a 2005 with 34k miles on it. not sure what package it is though, maybe someone can help me out with that.

so far this car has been great and the only complaints i have with it is that in the snow i go every which way but straight. every car i have ever owned has been RWD so i know how to drive RWD cars in the snow but this car just doesnt handle like the others. and the gas mileage sucks!!!! i was told that it would get 25mpg on the highway and im getting nowhere near that. from what i have been reading the car is only getting about 18mpg? im kinda worried about all the things that i have been reading about that goes wrong with these cars. i did get an extended warranty from the dealer that covers me till 2013.

well i look forward to chatting with everyone here and learning more about the car and maybe even meeting up with other 8 owners in my area. if there are other 8 owners in my area on this site that wanna meet up in the summer my parents corevette club does a high speed obstical course a couple times each summer. all are welcome to compete. i have only done the course once with my dads vette and after i beat his best ever the first time i drove his vette he hasnt let me drive it again. that was over 5yrs ago. also if anyone has a motorcycle and wants to ride this summer im down for that too. hence my name wheellee (why cant we have animated sigs? i have a great one from another site that i wanted to use here too)

sorry if this post is kinda jumpy, im hung over from last and not quite with it yet this morning

a few pics of the car:

Welcome - looks sharp. Mine has appearance pkg and no spoiler. Keep it spoilerless. Check out the forum that covers Ohio. Lots of MPG threads, but mine doesn't really get much above 22-23 highway at 70. But if you get new plugs and coils, the MPG usually goes back up a bit after that.

This is the link for your region in the SCCA. You can participate in autoX without getting points on your license if you are interested. The rx8 is one of the best cars to have in the current class you would drive in. You will find that you are more competitive in the Stock class than the more modified classes. You can still do stuff like changing wheels and tires, catback exhaust and upgraded shocks, but if you are as good as you say in a Vette, than you should be able to hold your own against the WRXs and EVOs you will go up against. I get 18ish in the winter in city driving and have gotten as good as 24 on the highway. I average about 20 though. As long as you stay on top of the minor issues and drive this car like its supposed to be, you should do just fine with oil changes and tires. Good luck and Good Hunting!

Surprisingly, that'll be the NE (northeast) subforum. Not sure why as most (if not all) Ohioans consider themselves Midwesterners but I don't run the place so. . . .
