I'm glad Mazda's being proactive about issues, but if I have to go back in for reflash after reflash, it gets old. Also, if they are going to detune this thing's performance down anymore, at some point the car will stop being as fun to drive and then you might as well just be driving something else...

Umm it affect EVERY RX8 made so far.

they outta just install a larger metal gas tank. and heatsheild it.

This make me wonder.. if it's getting hot enough to melt the plastic.. I wonder how much gas is getting cooked off from the heat and maybe thet's why city gas mileage is so FSKING poor but highway is good. More wind to keep everythihng cooler on the highway and the gas isn't vaporizing off.

Do you have any idea what it would cost to replace the gas tanks on all of these cars? We can kiss any new cars from Mazda goodbye if they had to do that. In addition, they are not heatsheilding the tank. The recall only asks for an inspection of the tank, and then a reflash. If there is no damage to the tank, then the new reflash apparently will prevent damage. Unfortunately, if there is damage, then they are deciding how to handle it...whether to replace the tank with a new of the same type, or a different type, who knows what their thinking of doing if it is damaged....that's why they will be HOLDING cars with thermally damaged tanks.

Hysteria of freaked out RX-8 owners

Umm it affect EVERY RX8 made so far.
Umm, has your engine overheated yet and blown its seals?

Umm, did you even get off your duff and check to see if there is actually thermal damage at the grommets?

Umm, did you even consider what type of driving conditions would cause this type of damage, and the good possibility that it may not even affect you...

Umm, word of advice, think and act for yourself and stop following the mass hysteria of freaked out RX-8 owners.

Does anyone have any info on what this new flash is going to do? It actually feels good now, and then they want to reflash it and kill it again. I am in the same boat with the enterprise car rental, last time they actually tried to give me a 94 pontiac grand am.

Angry

So, what does this mean for those of us with aftermarket exhausts?

Do you think they'll still cover it if I go in with an aftermarket?

Damn, I really really don't feel like crawling under there again, it took me a week to figure out how to fix my cat-> muffler leak.

ok first off- search or just plain look around before starting a thread. this is ridicul;ous we have been talking about it since saturday the 9th.

shaolin- no ones car is going to be held!! because you arent goignt o make an appointment until you know they have parts which will be after you get your recall letter.

chrisbert- no that is not what the flash will do- i will have more on that in the other recall thread.

valpac- since the problem could extend to a ruptured and leaking fuel tank the dealership would have to hold it after inspection if they found a leaking tank and didnt have a replacement. liability wouldnt let them put a leaking fuel tank back on the road.

wannahave- every RX-8 in th eUS and canada falls in the Recall. where you are in the vin range determines what they look at or do with your car

rotaryIT- there are so many sources of oil burning smell that smelling it doesnt mean your car is doomed.

rodrigo67- i have been talking about the replaced engines in texas and nevada for over a month now. i have saids the numbers are in the dozens in both. they are nearly all AT cars. over the last week i have said several times that the number of those engiens on order for replacemnt is about 100. they have teams of engineers sitting in the hot spots for this problem going over every engine- they will find the problem. it however is not related to the recall.

cast2themoe- there is nothing on your Mazda page yet because the recall doesnt start until august. they need to get teh parts in place to start doing the work. its simply to early to have people start coming in- because then they would have to hold cars because they wouldnt thave the parts if needed.

rodrigo- if you have an AT car and your engine fails they are going to replace it. also i dont know how long you have had your car but the most flashes you could have had is 5 in 2 years and you dont need every one. they havent detuned the car since k flash and have been improving performance since. S will not detune the car either. more on that in the recall thread in the issues section.

Aeseras- every car is included in the Recall but not every car is effected. cars built since March 22 of this year only need a cursory inspection because they have the extra heat blanket installed from the factory.

i am now closing this thread to keep furthur information easier to find by keeping it to one thread

here

they will be adding an extra heat blanket tothe shielding. this has been done already on every car built since March 22nd. They will be replacing damaged tanks and that is why the delay of start until august - they need to get more tanks in the states. that is the only reason to hold a car- damaged tank with no replacement on hand.
