The best mod I ever did was the Cobb Accessport (AP) from Mazdamaniac (MM) see thread. Better MPG, better oiling, cooling fans turn on earlier and of course more power.

Dont just find who is the cheepest, buy it from MM, you get customized calibrations for 6 months, so if you are thinking about oing an intake kit do it with in 6 months of buying the AP.
No cat makes more power and intake might make a few. Dont expect big gains unless you go FI.
If you are thinking abot getting an intake, I used the racing beat with air duct until I went FI. I loved it and it worked great. I have it up for sale in the fs section. Always a good Idea to find your parts used, so once you decide what you want to buy, keep an eye on the FS threads.
Brakes and handling are great from the factory but if you want to track the car you should do some upgrades, better tires, lower and stiffer suspension, better brake pads and rotors.
Lots of info on the forume, just look around.

Really a personal choice. What is it about the 8 that you think is lacking, and needs to be fixed?
For me, the LightInSight was a necessary mod. The sock and the hook came next, but are more in the realm of preservation rather than modification.
