New Tire Install From HELL
This post is going to lead into 2 questions so bare with me
This morning I finally had the time to install my Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD07's. I took it to a reputable shop with a great track record. I told the manager to be careful etc etc. He told me not to worry things would be fine.
During the install the mechanic came out to me saying that there were small scratches in all 4 rims from taking the old tires off.
WTF I thought. I said to him " all 4?, you didn't get the clue from the 1st or 2nd rim that there might be a problem?" He says, " We get a lot of high end cars with this same issue" I respond saying "So I guess you **** everyone **** then?"
He then suggested touch up paint. I laugh and told him that touch up is a bullshit fix. I humor him by letting him call Mazda to get the paint. While he was on hole I told him that there may be a problem getting the paint because its the 40th Anniversary Paint. He gets off the phone and says that Mazda cannot get the paint. I laugh again. Now what?, I say. He said that he would let me have the service for nothing and that they would wash this issue. I say no, and pay for the service and made then note on the invoice that they scratch every friggin wheel. I'm not going to let them get off that easy.
I'm glad he showed me but I would have looked before I left their lot.
Here's the questions
Is there a paint code for the 40th wheels that is available. Or was Mazda telling the truth? If no paint code then these guys are repainting every wheel.
When I got home I saw that they made a mess of the glue for the wheel weights. LOL
Is there any easy way of getting this crap off without damaging the wheel/paint? I tried for a quick minute, but its poring rain today.
I'll take some pics when the weather lets up.
Any help would be great guys. I'm just so pissed about this. I can understand one wheel getting a scratch but not all 4 of them and then telling me. Unacceptable.....

I don't know about a paint code for the 40th anniversary, but the regular rims I think use the same paint code as Sunlight Sliver, I'm not familiar enough with those rims to know if they are a different color or not.
At least they didn't try to hide it and then tell you they came in like that.

That's probably it. My local Town Fair Tire did the same to all four stock of mine. I can see where it's difficult given metal on metal but it seems no one cares any more.
There are a number of different Mazda rim paint codes (my '05 Shinka has a different code for instance; a bit darker than others). Send Tommy at Finishlineperformance a note with your VIN and he'll tell you precisely what you need.

Damn I hate that crap. I had something similar happen this summer. One of my tires got a tear in the sidewall. I ordered a replacement and had it shipped to my home. I took it to a local tire shop and specifically asked if their tire machine would damage my aftermarket rim. "Oh no don't worry we work on these all the time" (sound familiar???). then the tech comes up to me and says the machine slipped and gouged your rim. I look at it at start shaking my head saying you have gotta be frickin kidding me!!!! they offer to send the wheel off to be repaired. I tell them they are going to buy me a new wheel. the tech gets the owner and I tell him he is going to buy me a new wheel. The owner tells me to get quote/receipt for the replacement and he will reimburse me which is what I wound up doing.
Here is an idea for your situation. Get a quote to get them powder coated black or another color of your choosing (I have not seen a 40th wheel PCed yet) and tell the owner that he is going to pay for it...

Corn- I'm not going to PC these wheels. I want to keep the car authentic in the appearance as possible.
Having the wheels repainted wouldn't be an issue because i do have another full set of 40th wheels is storage with my winter tires on them. So I could easily swap them when the weather changes in a month or so. This way I can have all four freshly painted for the spring. The Tire Shop doesn't need to know I have another new set of wheels. I am going to call me insurance company this afternoon and see what they say. (A good friend of mine is my Ins. Agent) haha.
Glue Glue Glue. help there?

thats cool I can see keeping it authentic... just have them professionally repainted and stick the tire shop with the bill. Insurance HMMM shouldn't the shop have insurance to cover this?
as for the glue Goo Gone should do the trick...

Sorry to hear that man, definitely have the refinished at a reputable place (some won't match the paint perfectly). But I have a worse story.
I bought some new Enkei RS5's back in the day and had them shipped to my house. I took them to the local Goodyear to have tires mounted and the rims installed. They put the car in the bay and I walked across the street to the store and as I walking back I saw the guy take the wheel off the machine and and stand it up next to another one of my wheels that was standing up.
Well, both wheels fell over face first (I watched it happen in slow motion) onto the metal drainage grate in the middle of the garage bay. needless to say, they were both gouged and scratched really bad and to make matters worse they had scratched the other two mounting the tires. The manager was really good and they had four new wheels shipped within a day to two to replace mine and they did not charge me for mounting, balancing, etc.
It just sucked because I was so excited to sport the new rims I had saved forever for.

glue?? there should not be any glue. shops are required to use a lubricant so the bead of the tire does not tear when installing it. there is no way to avoid this. just rise it off with a hose or something. it does not hard the tire or wheel in any way.

^ I'm talking about the glue- adhesive that hold the wheel weights in place on the inner rim. I would never let anyone balance a wheel from the outside
Goo Gone doesn't work and brake cleaner seems to risky.....
Any other ideas fellas?

A body shop with a good paint operation should be able to match the color. They can measure the existing color and match that, rather than rely on codes.
This thread makes me really glad that I went to one of Tire Rack's highly recommended installers, even though it cost me $45 a wheel for mounting and balancing.

Sorry to hear. Sloppy shop. I've had a reputable body shop do some horrible work on my 8 before. Hope you're able to resolve the issue at their expense.
