New version: tail lights

Thanks to all the rain in El Paso as of late, my tail light is full of moisture... again. About 2 years ago I had this happen and my dealership swapped it out no problems. Today when I went in for it, they told me that there will be a Service Bulletin out shortly for a new version of tail light to be installed as opposed to the current plan of simply replacing them with the same part.

Anyone else heard this? Know what they look like? Just curious because I chose to wait for the service bulletin so I can get the new part.

I would think they would look the same but with a different type of seal on it.

WHy don't you get it replaced with the old part for now and when the "TSB" really comes out, then do the exchange for the new ones.

Also, how much longer is on your warranty? Maybe your dealer is trying to hold off on changing your tail light until you warranty is out, then he can charge you.

Why? If he did that it would mean one more trip to the dealer...more time waiting etc...Just a PITA. If it were me I'd wait til the new TSB. That is if the current taillights are still working properly.

because its going to be one of those service bulletins where the part will get replaced only if it applies to your car. It's not a recall. So if I get it replaced now, my car wont need it when the new part comes in (unless it goes bad again).

My warranty is 72 months 100k miles (I got this free with the whole 238/248 hp issue thing)

I would wait for the TSB to take effect . Why waste your time now . Besides the dealer might not want to change the new taillight he just installed with nothing wrong with it.

I'll tell you right now the dealer isn't going to replace **** unless there's a problem. A TSB doesn't mean you get an automatic upgrade.

He's right but they do help your possible moronic Service Dept solve your problem twice as fast.

That is exactly why I chose to wait. Now getting back to my actual questions... Has anyone else actually heard of this TSB coming out?

Just curious. Tell me more about how you got a warranty extension? Because of the mis-stated HP, MNAO just gave me $500 and free scheduled maintenance for the standard warranty period (48 months or 50K miles).

I was offered a buy-back, a "free" oil change service for the duration of my warranty, or the extended warranty. I took the extention. I have the paperwork as proof for the 72 month 100k mile warranty.

NoTears, if you want an absolutely honest answer on if a new TSB is coming out, regarding...anything...give Rosenthal Mazda a call. They seem to know..basically everything. They're great!

I went back to look in the files because I thought I was going nuts. My letter from MNAO, dates August 22, 2003, offered only two options:

- Buy back the car
- $500 debit card and free scheduled maintenance for the balance of the factory warranty
