New to the world of Rotary...and loving it!
Hello,
I've been lurking here for the past two weeks, first to get the feel for all things RX-8 while making the decision to buy one or not, and now as a proud owner of a 2005 Titanium Gray RX-8! (and yes, I've read enough of the posts to hear all about the supposed curse :p )
It all started with my wife's 2000 Toyota Celica. Great little car, fun to drive, in great shape still, and the best part? It was payed off. Unfortunatly, it got wrecked. Totalled. So, unexpectantly, we were in the market for a new car. We wanted something sporty and fun (and fast, my wifes a leadfoot. Okay, so am I :D ), but we also wanted some level of practicality, as we may have a kid someday, so the RX-8 seemed like a natural. We were looking at some other cars, but after driving the 8 we immediately dropped the others.
We were going to go for a used one, but we found a great deal at a local Mazda dealership on a 2005 that had been sitting on the lot for a llttle too long, the only thing it didn't have that we wanted was the Sunroof, but that wasn't a deal breaker.
Now that we have the car I have a few major complaints:
1.) It causes stress on our marrage, as we fight over who gets to drive it
2.) Its hard to drive on the freeways, as the exit that I planned on taking shows up way earlier than expected :D
3.) The integrated stereo that is impossible to replace with an aftermarket deck. This one I'm serious on, as I've got a great aftermarket deck, with the Sirius add ons that I removed from the Celica. Oh well,I knew that when I bought it, I guess its time to get creative. I plan on ordering the PIE unit from RX8Garage and adding on the Sirius unit that way with the display unit inplace of the ashtray.
Anyways, I just wanted to introduce myself, and say Hello!

Sweet, another DFW 8 owner, Congrats! check out the Gulf regional forum sometime, even though I have not gone to any, there are a lot of local 8 events.
My Wife and I fight over driving the car all the time also.....but fortunately I usually win.
It seems like a lot of Japanese car makers are going towards this trend of integrated stereo.
Have fun and welcome!

Thanks!
I've done a bit of reading over in the Gulf regional forum, and hopefully I'll be able to stop by a meeting soon. I also hope to be able to attend the BBQ in September.
I do like how the factory deck is set up, I just wish I could swap it out for my own. Since I can't, I'll just enjoy the nuice things about the stock one, like the controls on the steering whell and the integrated display. It does look good as well.

Wow you sound just like me. I just haven't bought mine yet I've been lurking here for the past few weeks as well, and I test drove one last week. I love it. My wife has a sporty car she drives to work, but i'm left with the 94 Camry so I'm in the mood to get something enjoyable. I'm probably going to get the Titanium Gray as well.
You said you got a great deal on your 8? How much was it? I'm curious how low the new 2005's are selling for.

After the experiences in the past with "Blows" stereos I'm glad that we ended up getting the standard RX-8 rather than the GT. The only things that the GT that we were looking at while at the dealership had that we wanted was the sunroof and the fog lights, but neither of us wasnted leather seats, and I didnt want to pay 6K more for it. I can add the fog lights, and the sunroof isn't that big of a deal to us.
I do love the steering wheel mounted controls, I even found myself trying to use the non-existant ones in my Isuzu on the way to work this morning
Speaking of switching from driving the 8 to driving the Rodeo, it feels like I'm driving a big-rig when I'm in the Rodeo now, expecially the loooong shift throw. :p
