Newb here so share some love.
Been lurking this forum since 07 but just joined so yup. I really wanted something that is good handling and what not, was thinking about a s2000 but i changed my mind. I already have a kid and a second one coming soon so the s2 was out. I really like the rx8 since i saw one tracking in a magazine. Lol. My main concern is that i like to travel far distance and go out with the family alot so i really want a car that will not leave me stranded or so. I know people say rotary tends to break down faster but who cares i love em. I already have a 91 supra for fun and im gonna trade in my accord for a corolla so the wife can have it then im gonna get the rx8. So please, lend me some info and so forth. Im really looking forward to get a rx8 soon. Thanks

Look at the stickys thats pretty much all the info you will need. I have owned my car for a little over a year and never had an issue that left me stranded. Drove from vegas to colorado and back and it was great, 700 miles each way and my only stops were for gas and it was fine.

I've owned mine over 5 years and have only been stranded once: I forgot to fully close the trunk (leaving the trunk light on) and the next time I needed my car, a week later, the battery was dead. But that doesn't count. The 8 has been as reliable as any car I've owned, and I've owned eight cars over 39 years. It's as reliable as my desk lamp, pencil sharpener and toaster.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
Read the stickies and take care of the car and it will take care of you. Follow the scheduled maintenance and do some preventive maintenance as needed. If you do all of that, you'll be glad you did. Good luck on purchasing the 8.

Make sure any potential car you are serious about buying you have a compression test done. DO NOT BUY A CAR WITHOUT THIS! Otherwise you may buy a car with low compression (Like I did) and you will need to have the engine replaced (as I did). There is a very good warranty for this very reason from Mazda, 8 yr 100K miles. But this can all be avoided by doing a compression test before hand. Good Luck!
