hey buwisit: fortunatly you're not the only one to ask those questions so don't worry.

I would suggest you familiarize yourself with this website's search function (it's towards the top right), it can be a great way to find answers quickly.
As for the oil question, that's a higly discussed topic and the concensus is that synthetic will NOT hurt your car.

I am partial to normal dino oil though, I use Castrol GTX 5w-30.

5w-20 is recommended, but seriously...Read the owners manual and/or do a search on this board. That should answer most of your questions. There's not exactly a lot of new material being posted on here these days because everything has been covered and discussed to death.

Welcome and congrats. It's a good idea to check your oil level every other refuel or so. You shouldn't need to add any this often but you should always be aware of your oil level in this car to be safe.

see i had my rx8 last year, december 2008 and i quite worried about the maintenance and the common problems of it..that's why i ended up asking some more info about my car..

castrol GTX 5w-30 is a regular oil right??

The MANUAL says 5w-20, I use 5w-30.. Some people prefer heavier or lighter oils... Matter of opinion and climate.

You only need to add oil as needed, it's not dependent on time, rather your usage. If you drive a lot then check your oil (dipstick) more often the I usually check every other fill up, just do it while the gas if filling up. Make it a routine and your car will thank you. 5-30 is pretty normal as long as your using thick enough oil it kinda come down to preference. A LOT of forum members are using synthetic and have ZERO issues. Others use dyno oil and are quite happy with it.

For you, follow your manual.

Thats what I did when I was a noob and my car has lasted 5 years and 72K miles with no problems with the engine.

5w20 non synthetic is what you use. Check oil every 2-3 fill ups. I typically need a quart between oil changes.

Your car is equiped with a low oil light, but do not rely on that.

just making sure cause i just checked my oil yesterday while filling a gas and its almost on a lower so i have to add oil into it but i dont know which one..

so castrol 5w-20 is good??

any more advice b4 i buy oil later on??

any non-synthetic 5w20 will be okay. So yes castrol 5w20 is good.

Very recently somone posted an excerpt from the Australian RX-8 manual, including the page that shows what oil to use for various temperature ranges. That post has been linked in at least two of the current "What oil?" threads. One more time wouldn't hurt. Look at the first post in that thread.

It shows 5w20, 5w30 and 5w40 all being good from about -30F to about 120F.

The chart is very comforting if you choose to use what Mazda NA recommends. It's also very comforting if you choose to use any of the heavier weights that some people recommend.

I get my oil changed at the dealer. ($30 and I stay clean, vs $20 to buy the oil and filter and then get dirty.) First couple of years they used 5w20. The past two changes have been 5w30. Not sure if I should ask why they changed.

They use Castrol GTX, which is what I've used for decades. John Force uses GTX - that's more than good enough for me.

One more tip. Search for Nubo's "Houdini dipstick maneuver" thread. You do not have to remove the engine cover to check the oil.

i I use Castrol 5w30 here till summer hits here in fl then will b moving to 10w30 also use regular oil weight and regular vs. synthetic is all up to u and a decision u have to make on what u feel is best

Welcome The best way to learn about your RX8 is to read the stickies in the tech section and go to a local club meet in your area.

There is a thread for California.

Once you have done that then you will learn more and won't have to post redundant questions on the forum that have been posted a thousand times.

well technically any oil is better than dirty or no oil just some of us here in the rotary world feel that the heat that is motor runs at and the DEMAND on oil it has(basically lives off the stuff) we feel that going a little thicker will help the situation alot....many ppl who race rotaries use 20w50(I belive correct if wrong) so there is no prob using something heavier like a 10w30 or something
