Just checking out this site. Reason for signing up...my brother just picked up a brand new rx8, titanium grey with all options except nav. He also just ordered the mazda speed appearance package too. Love the car, it's a real blast to drive and in many ways reminds me of my car.

Myself, I'm the owner of an 02 svt focus with some cosmetic mods including euro rs bumper, cf hood, projectors..etc,etc..it's in the process going FI ala jrsc. I'm aiming for 220whp/180lb/ft after dyno tunning..we'll see.

Anyway I'll be getting him to sign up too...great place for information here. I'm sure the mod bug will bite him after a visit.

Some pics of the cars,

Welcome to the club. Your bro is gonna love the car and our club. This site is critical reading, especially for the new owner. Make sure he does a search for "winter driving", "flooding", "DSC" and "Oil". These are VERY important issues.

Nice looking cars.

Enjoy!

awesome pic if that ford could be digitally removed somehow. Call me biased, but it's hard to look at the mona lisa sharing the same space with a dumpster.

Nice SVT. IS there a reason you are going with the JRSC vs. the Vortech unit ? Is it Roots vs. Centrifugal ? Are you putting anything else on there ? Isn't 70 whp a bit optimistic for the JRSC (I heard the SVT Focus dynoes at around 150 whp) ? I hear headers & cat back do wonders for that car. Well, good luck & welcome to the club.

The hood is cf, I didn't want to hide the beautiful cf weave with paint lol. Regarding the jrsc vs vortech it's basically a $$$ thing and what I wanted out of the car. With tunning the jrsc should be good for 220whp/180lb/ft (emphasis on the word tuning), I'll be picking up an x-caliber SCT flasher too. I know people with this set-up who have dyno'd these numbers...I'm hoping to match them with the same set-up. It should be a high 13 sec. car after this. I'm not obsessed with 1/4 mile time though...I love the corners :p

Actually Fanman the headers are 4-2-1 designed by cosworth so no room for improvement there...svt did their homework, also the factory exhaust for the svtf is a 2 1/4 " higher flow exhaust so that'll be left alone too.

MaHogoff I can accept the fact you don't like the car but it's far from a dumpster, you've obviously never driven an svtf. You just sounded like an srt-4 owner there with that comment.
I'm a car fan period, I'm not one of those guys who drive a certain car and think anything else is s**t. Does the rx-8 look better? Yes, I'll admit is does...but the rx-8 is not the holy grail of cars either. Each car has there strengths and weaknesses.

Anyway after my fi is done both cars are gonna hit the track for open lapping at an upcoming svt owners association event and yes mazda owners are invited too since they fall under the ford umbrella , it should be fun.

Thanks for the welcomes...and the dis ..lol..

Also, please ask him to search "mileage", "mpg", "gas", etc. before starting another thread complaining or talking about gas mileage. This site is full of them already. And Welcome!

Welcome to the site amigo!! Good luck on building up your SVT, I don't know to much about them, but I would say your goals for your car are definetly attainable. Your brother should love the RX8, I would tell him to do some research here, read his owners manual about flooding, and check with his dealer to make sure he has the latest ECU flash.

Yeah, you can't cover the carbon fiber. The Focus SVT was definitely one of the best of the "pocket rocket" class. The interior is pretty nice, the shifter was smooth, the handling was very neutral. Even though the SRT-4 has a more powerful engine, the car in general is just so cheap. I would have definitely looked at the SVT.

Usually, for higher flow applications you should go for a 2.5", or even 3" piping. Is that any different on the SVT ? Again good luck. JSRC is a good product.

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that for lower boost applications, say no greater than 9 psi a 2 1/4 exhaust (especially the freer flowing svt unit) would be enough. Now if the boost was higher or even if it was a turbo application that'd be a different story...like you said 2 1/2 to 3 inch.

Anyway getting off topic here I noticed in your sig fanman that your running the Greddy turbo...how do you like it? That's one of the directions I'm steering my brother in....

I like it a lot. Gives me much more mid range, which is what I wanted. It functions much closer to a roots type SC, vs. having all the power on the high end & turbo lag, that some of the big turbos have. I want to get my car to around 280-300 whp, & be more than happy with that. The Greddy is a nice unit for the price. I will tell you that they are expected to raise the price of the Greddy kit soon, so I would suggest to your brother if he wants it, he might want to get it sooner than later. Check with Jason over at www.rxstore.net (& mention that you are a member of this forum to get a better price) or Matt over at www.mazdaparts.com. I got mine at www.city-speed.com.

In regards to your your focus, usually bigger is better. Even if you are only running single digit boost, your car will probably function better with wider exhaust of 2.5"/3" Less backpressure the better, even in SC'ed cars. The Focus in the Recent SCC with the Vortech SC had a Bassani exhaust on it. Good luck with your mods.

That F-SVT would be hot if you painted the sides of the CF-Hood body-color. The ridges in the bumper line up perfectly with the headlights and edge of grill. The body-color would carry up the line beautifully.
