Newbie Help!!!!!

Hi everyone,

I know this has probably been asked numerous times so i apologise for that, i currently have a calibra turbo which in july will be sold and im looking for a new car. I have narrowed it down to a 3series bmw or the rx8 as i absolutely love its looks.

My preference would be the rx8 but ive heard a few concerning reports about them,

they flood and this needs a mazda bloke to come and have a look ? can anyone explain how this happens,

the alloys corrode slightly worried about that ?

Is there any thing else that i should be aware of, ill be buying a used one from the main dealer's so im hoping that will help with trying to avoid the dodgy ones.

Im not to fussed about the fuel consumption as mine now is pretty bad, im after the 192bhp version whats the average people get with that, (i have a heavy foot sometimes)

I apologise for all the q's but this will be my first big money car that i buy and id like to get it at least half right

Thanks

Brian

Search for all of those items in the site...you'll find there are tons of threads that will anser your questions.
A word of advice. Unless you want to get flamed...don't start a thred saying you know something has been asked a ton of times....search before you ask the question.

Search and then come back and ask specifics.

Never flood just make sure its warm b4 you shut down and make sure you check the oil. The flooding happens when its not warm and you shut the car down I don't know how to explain exactly what happens. I'd buy the car you'll love it the 9k redline is the best.

As long as you do let it warm up before shutting down and give it an extra rev before you turn it off this is not a big issue.

20k on mine w/zero floods, and I'm in New England w/the full range of weather. Never heard of alloy problems. Are you talking about the wheels? Some have had the fender strakes corrode, but there are stainless ones that are much better anyway.

IMO, there are not any problems that can't be avoided. Most issues are operator error. W/the exception of a few who were unlucky enough to get a crappy car - something that can happen w/any make/model.

My car's never flooded, but should be fairly easy to deflood the car;read your quick guide. If you experience weak starts upgrade your starter and your battery. The factory wheels, do get a bit rusty on the inside of the wheel.

I'm at 40,000 miles as of this weekend and I have had my 8 for 2 years and I have never had it flood. If it does it is a simple fix. You can fix it yourself in under 5 minutes. Now the alloys corrode, if something is not taken care of properly it will rust. I don't baby my 8 like I used to but I still care for it and I have no problems with it.
