Newbie MT RX8ers
Just wanted to hear from all the other first time MT drivers who have learned to drive a stick on the 8. Personally, I don't think I could ever go back to an AT. It is absolutely the most fun I've ever had driving a car. I was concerend at first about tearing up my car but after several stalls the first weekend I picked it up very fast (this was also in the dense traffic of the DFW area). Now having owned it over two months, I could not be more happy with my decision to buy the 6MT. I know if I had purchased the AT I would have always wondered in the back of my mind about whether I should have taken the plunge into MT world. I'm curious to see if there is there anyone out there who had never driven a stick before owning their 8 who now wishes they had purchased the automatic. Now I just have to teach the wife how to drive a stick!

CONGRATS on making the plunge...
i think the 8 has a perfect and forgiving Manual Tranny for learning how to drive a stick...
it's smooth on the clutch and in the shifting. the car is easy to control under 4K rpms. also the throws are short. however i still miss 6th to 3rd downshifts. i need more practice. i learned how to drive stick in a Nissan Sentra back in the 80's - i would have preferred the "8" . when my son's tall enough to reach the pedals i'll teach him how to drive an MT in this car...

Although I'm not exactly a newbie... it's been over 20 years since I drove a manual. I had an 82 Citation that I burnt out the clutch at 2000mi. The warranty clutch lasted till I sold the car (put over 100K on that clutch). I've been driving auto's ever since.
I knew I wanted the MT over the AT when I decided on my 8, there was no doubt. I only stalled 2x with the 8, and that was on a demo 8 roadtest. I have not stalled or slipped the clutch in my 8 since I drove her home. Took no time at all to get back to the manual swing of things, especially in this car. I've roadtested several other manual trannied cars, and none of them were as easy to drive as the 8.
