Newbie needing question answered

Hey guys,

I just picked up my RX-8 about a month ago. I have read and see that the normal RPM range at idle is around the 700-1000 range but my main question I need answered is:

Is the car supposed to have a big vibration feel in it (especially the shift ****) and sometimes it almost sounds like the car is going to stall. I was just wondering becuase I took it to the local Mazda service shop and they said the vibration was normal and I just needed a second opinion.

Thanks

Ok, I searched for the 'lope at idle' thread and that pretty much sums up what I am experiencing. I have to take my car in for AC amp install in a week or so and get another recall done and I may have them take a look at the plugs while I am there if they will do that. If not, I'll do it myself just to check that out too.

The vibration feeling is definitely weird but I guess that comes with the rotary engine and I'll get used to it because I really like my RX-8.

Thanks for your help.

You should not be getting vibrations. The RENESIS is super smooth and due to the design has significantly less moving parts than a normal piston powered engine hence no vibration.

My advice is get it checked out and don't accept an explanation that it is supposed to be that way. Visible vibration in the shift **** is normal though.

I have an AT and I also feel vibration in the shifter during idle. However putting to neutral gets rid of most of the vibration.

The stick may move around a little bit at idle. This is because Mazda set the idle speed for minimal pollution and fuel consumption - not the optimal idle speed for smoothness.

I can tell there are a lot of really young people driving these cars, without a lot of experience. I remember getting into my first muscle car with a very aggresssive cam. The whole damn car shook like crazy at idle. I thought it would fall apart. This would have been a '69 Camaro 396 SS. Awesome muscle car.
