No problem at all... there are certainly a few of those people around here. You ask, react, and respond intelligently, so it is much easier reading your posts and giving help.
My Corolla blew an engine, and then the transmission from the crap engine rebuild. Doesn't mean that it still isn't the world's most reliable car. Same perspective for the 8. It has alot of bad and unjustified rep, but it isn't really accurate. I won't ever buy a Toyota again, where I will be buying 8s for the rest of my life....unless something better comes along from Mazda
Another way to look at it is: Mazda will replace the engine under warranty up to 100,000 miles as long as you follow dealer recommendations for service, even if you do it yourself. Blowing an engine isn't really a bad thing, although it has alot of negative emotion surrounding it. Once your past 100,000 miles on the chassis, the worry rate goes up, but still not massively. Just be informed, take care of the engine as you know how, and shovel the rest of the concern about the engine to the closet until you hit 6 figures. Even then, you might not have to worry.
Welcome again

So, the engine has a 100,000 mile warranty or the whole car? What about the transmission, etc? I think I'll call Mazda customer service tomorrow with the VIN and get the scoop. When I get the car home, I'll make an appt. to get everything checked over, oil changed, inspection, etc. Sounds like I should at least check the oil myself before I drive it home.

just the engine internals have the 8yr 100k miles warranty transmission is 60k miles (I think not sure of the year maybe 8) and emissions is 80kmiles i believe....the oil shouldb good when u get it but ould not hurt to check it at all. Yeah if u call up mazda and give them ur vin they can tell u what recalls/tsb's have been done or need done and make sure u have the most current flash(supposed to inject more oil through the OMP)..

Called Mazda with the VIN. The car is clean and recalls performed in a timely manner. The one thing they could not tell me is anything about the PCM flash I read about in the stickies. Is there a way to find out what rev. flash a car has or would I need to take it to a dealer and hook it up to a computer to tell and have it updated if needed? They also said there are no official recalls on record for starter/battery/spark plug/engine mount upgrades. Does that mean those are just something a dealer would fix under warranty if and only if there are issues related to them?

And yes, the 8 is 100k/8yr on the engine, 60k?/5yr powertrain, 48k?/4yr bumper to bumper, 80k/unlimited on emissions equipment. Your original paperwork probably doesn't mention the engine warranty increase, that was voluntarily done by Mazda last year, and applies to all 8s, retroactively, regardless of current or past ownership history. Quite nice actually They stand behind their engine, and are working to counter the bad rap it got in 2004.
