A nice compliment today
I was working on this little girl today at my dental office. I've worked with here family for quite a while, and done some extensive work on her mom. Really sweet lady. Anyway, I had parked my 8 in an open loading area behind the office where people don't usually park. It offered a GREAT view of the car from a couple of the operatories.
Shannon (the mom) just kept staring out the window while I was working on her daughter. Finally she said " that is the coolest looking car I've ever seen. What is that, a Porsche?"
I laughed and said "no, it's an RX-8, but a pretty nice car huh." She just stared again and said "whose is that, anyway".
We had a good long conversation about the car after that. She just couldn't stop staring at it out the window.
puts a smile on me every time!

Isn't that nice?
I work at the local university and one of the female student workers from upstairs came through our shop and noticed the desktop picture of my 8. She said, "wow, what a beautiful car!" I was impressed on how well she understood the features such as 18" wheels, 6-speed manual tranny, etc. :D

Yesterday a guy in a luxury car pulled up and motioned for me to roll down the window. "Is that the new RX-8?" "yes", I said. "Well I just thought you should know that that is one sweet car".
Tonight at the gas pump a lady also commented on my car and asked me if I liked the rotary engine. She also asked if it annoyed me when I shut it off. When I asked what she was talking about she said "Yeah, dosen;t the rotary engine keep going and going for a little while after you shut it off?"

I've only had my 8 for three days now but I can't believe all the compliments I get on it. I think alot of it has to do with the color...lightning yellow .....but the excellent styling doesn't hurt either. I have two vettes, one a custom show car, and from what I've seen so far the RX8 seems to attract just as much attention and compliments as the vettes. Amazing car!!!

Yeah, I've noticed people like to talk about it at the gas station.
I think it attracts more attention than vettes because it's uncommon, I see at least 5 vettes per day, i'm lucky if I see another 8 once in 2 weeks

Lol
I told her it was mine. I just didn't want to seem like this show-off punk dentist parading around the $$ she just spent on this huge bridge I had done on her. She knows me pretty well, though, and just said "good for you. After all that schooling you deserve to get something nice for yourself" If only she knew I bought my diploma over the interent! JK :D
No MIFL. Actually 4 primary extractions, occlusals on 3 and 14, and an upper nance.
for those of you out there that understoond that....

I've been getting a ton of comliments at the gas station, when I park....I've even had people roll their window down while driving and shout compliments at me (my car actually). It must be the amazing looks and its unique style.
P.S. Tbone, keep up the good dental work. By the way, it's an FPD, not a bridge .

i was at the movies with my girl on sunday, and when we got there the place was packed, but after the movies let out the place was pretty empty. my car was the only one parked in the area. 2 gentleman and a young boy were standing around my car admiring it. It was a nice feeling especially since my girl was with me.
she did say, "i think you bought this car because it would draw attention". I responded with "i bought the car because i fell in love with it, the attention i get is just a bonus"

As I pulled up to the Drive Thru at Chick-fil-A this past weekend, the girl working the window leans out and blurts " that car is so awesome!", I was not even done rolling down the window.
I get looks at almost every gas station, even had one of the attendants come out of the store one day. I also routinely find random hand and nose prints on my windows.
Sometimes on the highway, I start asking people what they are staring at, even though they can't hear me, and my girlfriend reminds me the are looking at the car.

Tbone, before you bought the RX-8, I'm sure you considered more expensive cars... such that you are a Dentist and all. Correct? Could have had a Porsche, but went with the Mazda?
I went the cheaper route and "could" have bought something a bit more expensive, but after owning a rotary previously, and now that I'm a bit older,... decided to stick with Rotary power.

The forehead, nose and handprints seem to happen a bit less lately. It happened so much at first, I kept a small bottle of window cleaner and a cloth in the car!
My 8 (which is my license plate now, 'MY EIGHT") still gets a lot of compliments, but the ones that mean the most are those from fellow RX8 owners!

I get compliments constantly. Once a women in her eighties with a Mazda 929 had me roll my window down to talk. Half the time its guys the other half girls. Sometimes the guys are in there 20s and sometimes 40s. I have had teenagers actually form a ring around the car when I parked it near a classic car show in the parking lot. 9 and 10 year olds will stare at the car with there mouths open. I walked up on a family standing around the car in a parking lot the other day discussing its merits. They were embarrassed when I walked up and they realized it was mine and that they were drooling all over it. I have had waiters in restaurants discuss the car with me. I had a guy in his 60s at Office MAX come up to tell me the history of the rotary engine and how he worked for GM when they were trying to develop it. We talked for half an hour. I have to say I like the attention even if it is the car getting it.

An old geezer about 60 (I'm 52) was riding in a car next to me on a 4 lane. He kept staring. When he finally noticed I was watching his reactions to my car, he gave me a huge smile and a big thumbs-up.
I've also had men and ladies wanting to sit in my car and look under the hood when at gas stations. I've found that checking the oil seems to be the que for people to come over and start discussions.
I also had an older man explain to me about the rotary engine after he filled up his tank with gas and moved his car out of the way.
Frankly, I love the attention my car gets. This is something I've gotten very comfortable with. It is a relationship. It is love. It's not a institution so I guess my wife shouldn't be too concerned.
