Nice Compliment This Weekend...

So I was parked in front of my office, and getting some things out of the trunk, when this older gentleman with a boy around 8 years old walk by. The guy tells his son/grandson, "if you study and work real hard, you'll be able to get a car like that guy someday..." I smiled at him, and the kid was like "yeah right!" The guy said, "well if you make alot of money you can..."

I just smiled and thought..."geez these guys think it's a Porsche or something..."

that's good..puts a smile on your face huh? i had a similar experience the other day..driving home i was about 100 feet from my driveway and had to stop while this painting crew was moving their van or something..and there were these guys that were sitting on their tailgate..older guys.. and i had all my windows down and sunroof open..so i was right by them and the older guy was just STARING..and said.."Now THAT'S a car!...i bet that thing goes huh?"...lol i was kinda surprised..but said.."Thanks,....yup..it goes" lol (i was kinda thinkin.. what car doesn't go? that's the point right? lol) anyways.. i think we should have a thread..if we haven't already..about positive comments we've recieved about the car.. (not just the things we like about it)..things other people have said..strangers..etc..

It's funny how people react to the car...you're right I was smiling for a few minutes after that...

I had a young guy asking me questions the other day. He really liked the car. So after the "what kind of car is that" and "is it fast" questions he asked me "How's the mileage"? I smiled and said "It's really pretty bad". He smiled and said "Cool"! :D

Heh, I say a Nordic Green RX-8 goind down the freeway near were I live while I was driving and I pulled up along side of it to find an older gentleman siting in the driver seat. I gave him the complimentary thumbs up and the silent "Nice Car!" and then backed down to speed limits. Kinda the reverse of yours I guess.

I went through the KFC drive-through the other night and I had two people at the window commenting about the car. They were going nuts!

I went out with a few friends this weekend to an indoor go-kart track. Most of the people who came along hadn't seen my car before. One of my buddies girlfriends walked over and petted the car. lol...

Just about a week after I bought the car, we were having something of a warm spell here in town. I had my windows/sunroof open, just cruising along. There was a girl next to me in traffic with a green Integra. She kept darting her head over and back. We finally come to a stop (she's in front of me at this point), she leans out of her window and yells back "HEY, I LIKE YOUR CAR!!". Made my day.

I like the "accidental" compliments too, like when a guy in a Beemer drives up next to you, gives the car a once-over, then stomps on the gas and accelerates away. (Feeling a little insecure there, are we?)

My best one so far was the guy hanging out the window of his buddies truck with his camera phone to take a picture of the car as they passed me in slow moving traffic.

My favorite compliment came from a six year old boy. I had just parked my blue RX8, and I was walking towards my local dry cleaner. A mother and her young son were walking towards their car in the next space. The boy said with great excitement, "That's a COOL CAR, mom!".

Another one came from a woman in her sixties. I had stopped at a traffic light, and she said, "That sure is a pretty car! What is it?". Seems like folks of all age appreciate the body style.

The worst question I am asked from time to time is, "Nice car. What did you pay for that?" Am I the only one who thinks that is a rude question to ask?

I have had a few compliments.

1. A guy at a car wash took out his camera phone and took a photo of it sitting at a light.

2. (My favorite) while in Naples a guy in a Black Lexus SC430 was at 7-11 came over and asked what it was and how I liked it. He then asked what the sticker was, when I told him he said "wow I got screwed, I just wanted a flashy car". :p

3. A lady in the passenger seat of a bmw yelled out the window "that car is BEAUTIFUL" the bmw driver looked kind of pissed. haha

The comments and positive feedback I get from this car is so often that its a bit uncomfortable now. It seems that it really attracts you or doesn't at all.

When the new underground parking attendent with 50,000 piercings and a mohawk hair cut tells you that your car is awsome and the interior is a dream, you get worried thinking that he has access to the car all day! Oh well, what can you do.

dang I love my 8.

I've had several nice comments.

One from a guy in a new Vette, asked what it was and said, "very cool, got to go look at one soon"

Another from a twenty something hottie, when I pulled up at a restaurant said, "that's a hot looking car". When I countered with "want to go for a ride?" she said "you bet!". Since I'm pushing 60, I'm sure it was the car, not my sex appeal!

Most everyone guesses at 50k plus as the price, I always fail to correct their, shall we say, "over estimate" ;>)

I don't really think that is rude. It's not a personal question. Maybe if they asked you how you could afford that car, then for your salary. As it stands, they could go and look it up on the net or at a mazda dealer or, they can save some time and ask you. It's not really a big secret, everyone on this forum knows how much it cost.

I had to argue with a guy once, he INSISTED my car was worth no more than $12,000. He kept saying I got ripped off. He must have thought it was a 1980's civic or something with a body kit. *roll eyes*
