It was nice knowing you all... (well, maybe not?)

OP... make sure you get an estimate from your body shop before they do total it... it will help in your decision making should they end up totaling it and throw you an offer on how much the total loss payment will be and how much you will get if you buy back the car.
Most insurance companies are pretty fair about this. They will research similar cars in the region and send you a report with the cars they looked at and their prices and include an offer. They will also include the cost of getting a similarly priced vehicle registered/taxes etc. If you don't like their offer, tell them to hike it up or you would like to explore getting it repaired. As others have said, you are not obligated to accept.
Anecdote, I bought a 06 Saab 9-3 Turbo with 60k on it for $6700 a year ago. I know I was getting a decent deal at the time, but after the insurance co decided to total it from a hail storm, they said they were going to cut me a check for over $10k! Nice little investment... who knows, you may also get a nice valuation.

Sorry for the lack of an update, guys. I thought I'd come back in. I got her back, she's good as new! The body shop I took her to did a fantastic job and I honestly can't tell the difference between pre/post accident driving.
Good to see you in the thread, Jordan, I was actually looking for your number the other day.
Edit: Upon some profile stalking, it looks like I actually purchased the car from the man you sold it to back in 2010.
All in all, the repairs came out to about $11,000. More damage was found once the body panels and doors were removed, but since the insurance company had already started paying for it, they just continued.

If your car didn't have roof and rocker panel (long piece under doors) damage it could be just door replacement.
the only way to evaluate damage would be door removal.
I guess RX8 doesn't have center post, which is usually moves in, pulling roof down and rocker panel up.
