nightmare

nightmare
Hey, a guy a work (former FD owner) says I’ve been had.
He states that the RX-8 is just a jazzed up Saturn ION with a rotary engine.
He states the 8 is overpriced, under powered, and gets PP gas milage.
He says they took a saturn, added some 18” tires, tmps, and a wankle
I of course disagreed with the Dumb S..
I said I was not stupid enough to pay 30k and I know that one can’t increase HP and get better MPG at the same time, but I keep getting the nightmare that I might be driving an ion.

lol that's funny.
After I'd picked up my 8, my wife and I went to a Saturn Dealership, and when I mentioned I'd bought an 8, the sales guy there went into how Saturn had apparently complained to Mazda about copying the door concept.
There's an Ion Redline Coupe that parks in my underground parking, and IMO, it's no where near as sharp looking as the 8. It looks like a Saturn that's prettied up a bit.
Offer to let your co-worker drive it to see if it's anything like the Saturn Ion. I'm pretty confident he'll agree the 8's better... unless he's one of those ******** that just says **** to **** people off.

sounds more like a bit of jealousy to me. A former Wankel owner that sold his FD for whatever reason, now wishes he either was in a situation to get an RX-8 or wishes he never let the FD go in the first place.
Or, he is one of thos eA-holes that liek to get people riled up.

ION vs. RX-8, not worth the thought, in my opinion.

Your NA RX-8 makes almost as much power as the 3rd gen twin turbo RX-7.
Not to mention the RX-8 was a brand new platform, it's not shared with any other car.
I heard Kia makes cars with wheels. Ferrari has cars with wheels too, so therefor someone spending $350,000 on a Ferrari is being ripped off because the Ferrari is just a Kia with red paint.

WTF do you care what this guy says?!! Man up and tell him he can go wankel himself! What does he drive anyway?
And what difference does it make what YOU do with your 30k. That pisses me off. I would rather burn the 30k infront of him than even loan him 5 bucks.

Now that’s 40k waste in my view

There are quite a few of us who have switched from Porsches to the RX-8.
I've had two 911's and one 944 in the last 7 years.
It's ironic that your friend drives a porsche but doesn't seem to understand why people like the RX-8. Porsche is similar to the RX-8 in that it's competitors tend to have much higher HP, but it's not always raw power that wins the day. Add in that the 911 and the RX-8 are smilar in size, weight...
It's about the driving experience.

Friend, not really, he’s a co-worker
Probably wishes he had a 8 versus the porsche
As for me, give me a 8 anyday!

My sister has an ION. She said something similar. It was probably just a ploy to get me to let her drive my car. It worked and she admitted there is no comparison. I then let her ride with me while I drove {he he}. Again, she conceded defeat. Then I drove her car. Um... It cost me $300 when I understeered the front driver-side bumper into a guard rail on an on-ramp (just scraped it a little). Caution: reset your driving style when driving lesser cars!

Several thoughts:
1) Is the creator of this thread a regular or a troll? This sounds so trollish to me!
2) My RX-8 also has a huge amount in common with my Cub Cadet lawn tractor as well - both have low ground clearance, both have internal combustion engines, can corner at a very high percentage of top speed compared to other vehicles, and are designed to go from point a to point b under its own power. F'ing please! IF the ******** who said this to you is actually real, ask him if he's ever done a side-by-side comparison. Actually, his car is very much like the Honda del Sol - two seats, piston engine, open roof, similar wheelbase. All they did was take a del Sol, put the engine BEHIND the seats, split them into two opposed banks and add two more pistons, and move the driven wheels to the back. Other than that, same car.
3) Does this supposed dolt know that Mazda is part of Ford and Saturn is part of GM? And the two NEVER share anything except this new six speed auto trans they are supposedly collaborating on?
4) My brother in law owns a Boxster. He drove my RX-8 the other day and proclaimed it "far faster and better handling" than his Boxster.
why am I wasting time on this ****?

Those doors are not new, watch a touge race and see what wins, "Turbo Power" or "Total Balance"
I like Carrera's and TT Porsches, however they aren't the end all of cars either, I recall the four wheel steering Prelude beat it in the slalom.
I could have afforded a car $20,000.00 more than the 8, I bought the 8 because Mazda realizes that there is more to driving & fun than sheer horsepower. I also knew the RX-8 would make a perfect drift car with it's high redline & 50/50 ratio, low center of gravity, engine behind the front axle, etc., I've not been disappointed yet.
