Nightmare Idle, R3.
Bit of background. 80 Kms 2009 R3. No previous issues, No hot start issues, Ignition(BHR Kit) tested with timing light and is working, CAT checked and is in perfect condition.
Story is that I went for a spirited drive to costco with my fuel below 1/4. Got there filled up and on the way back suffered a misfire. Car bogged down and died. Thought it was the fuel pump that died from overheating on the drive so I replaced that myself. And while I was at it put in a BHR midpipe.
Anyway I go to start her up after putting in the new pump and BHR midpipe and I get this. Start her up and she stalls out. 2nd time doesn't stall out but Idle is crazy rough, shaking and when applying gas, almost stalls.
I appreciate any insight on this and really appreciate your time.
Thanks,
Lachlan Shum
Please listen to the video. The sound says it all. She's a mess

I don't want to panic you, but it sounds like it threw a seal. The ratatata pulsing means you have a face or faces that aren't firing.
Before jumping to conclusions though, pull your spark plugs, pull the coils and make sure you have the right plugs in the right places and everything is connected to the correct coils. I know it was fine before, so it would be surprising if this was the cause, but let's eliminate that anyway.
After that, comp test...

Okay you replaced the whole pump assembly? Or installed a new pump in the S2 housing? Either way I don't think it is fuel related. How did you check the cat? Pull the plugs and see what they look like.

9K, replaced the entire fuel pump + assembly. Ignition is fine, checked the plugs and checked with my timing light. Consistent through the rpm range. CAT I pulled off and checked the honeycomb, perfectly intact. And then i put on a BHR midpipe. So the video is with the midpipe
I'm gonna have her towed to the dealership. I'm really starting to worry that one of the rotors lost compression. Or that a seal blew. If it is the engine, i'd be really surprised because there we no issues leading up to this. Running like a dream then suddenly dying.
I'm worried that my dealership will give me a hard time about warranty. I scheduled her in for a compression test and they were saying they could deny me for mods ect. Obviously they would have to prove that they caused it though.... Anyway shouldn't get ahead of myself until I have a comp. test. Trying to get a hold of a reader to pull codes
Thanks a lot guys.

Oh okay, I know you were asking about other pumps in another thread, and you have an S2 so I just wanted to makes sure you didn't try to put and S1 pump in your S2 assembly or something.
It would be odd for an S2 engine to die at that mileage but every engine has a number of premature failures, sometimes things just break or are not put together right. These are hand built engines after all. And these engines can just go from one day to the next.
Good luck, but it should be covered under warranty.

Ya replaced with an entirely new S2 pump assembly. I would be surprised as well, especially when she has been running so well and then just suddenly died. Really was hoping to stay on my original motor and avoid a reman but oh well.
Stressing out a lot because when I was on the phone with the service person at my dealership I mentioned that my 8 is still under the 8yr/100 warranty, and he was pretty critical. Saying don't get your hopes up because if you don't have proper service records or your mods could void the warranty...
Loki, when you say "threw a seal" which seal do you think it would be? Apex? Coolant?
Do you guys think I should put as many stock parts back in as I can before I take her to the dealership? Eg put my CAT back on and go back to stock coils? From BHR

I would put as many stock parts on as you can, dealers can be dicks. Technically they have to prove the mods caused the issue but if they deny you, you would have to take them to court to enforce that Magnusun Act (or whatever it is called).
As for maintenance, they will want that, it is one of the stipulations in the extended engine warranty. If you don't have records, a 50 spot at a local oil change place will go a long way

9K, unfortunately the magnusson act isn't a thing up here in Canada Thanks for that tidbit. I did buy all my oil filters from Mazda so they should have them on file...have receipts for my plugs and wires as well from mazmart. Are they super thorough? Like check every single record to the date and compare it to the service schedule?

Hey 9K. Just pulled some codes.
P2109
P0113
P0506
Leads me to believe that it isn't compression related at all. More likely AFR issues caused by MAF? Maybe?
Further, found that my AEM intake was fairly wet. Could water have gotten into the intake? Maybe fried the MAF sensor?
Thanks

My other buddy has similar issues recently after a car wash but after he dried everything out he was all good. But it depends on the amount of water ingested really, if it is enough it can get to a lot of engine components, like the vacuum actuators, etc.

Well once you are sure everything is dried out, you can test the MAF sensor, it could have been damaged. If it were me, I would pull the upper intake manifold and make sure no water made it into the vacuum chamber, purge valve, etc.

Hey 9K just got my buddy's 8 and we swapped MAF sensors. Didn't help. Threw some more codes though
P2004
P2005
No water in the actual intake but then it has been a week so it has probably dried up. Would a dealer be able to tell that the cause of engine failure was water?

Weird, a few issues here, but like Teamrx8 said, it's hard to diagnose over the internet. I can't help but think that water played a role in the issues though. I am just not sure how a IAT, TPS, and an IAC code relate to the APV codes. But if things got wet then all sorts of weird crap can happen.

Understandable. Thanks for all your help anyway. I will see what the dealership says. Worried about getting warranty approval. I will let you guys know what happens. My guess is a blown coolant seal. Hopefully warranty will go smoothly.
