Nissan GT-R or Next Gen RX?
So I can't decide what to do.
I found a new GT-R at a price that I love (2009 with premium package).
but I can't help but wonder what the next generation RX-7/9 will look like.
I think I'm going to wait another 12 months for further news/announcements from Mazda.
Mazda needs to produce a Factory FI 16x pumping out over 330 hp and 220 ft/lbs torque with a luxury interior and four seats. All for 50k or less. That would be a benchmark Sports Car. Oh and a dual clutch transmission or enhanced next gen transmission is a must.
They should be able to do this while keeping the weight down to 3,000 lbs or less giving a very respectable 0-60 in less than 4.5 seconds and a 1/4 in the 11-12 second range.
What am I smoking?

they are not in the same price range. although i love my 8, i am pretty sure the next gen rotary is not going to be better than gtr

I would not want a gtr even if I could buy one now. they are just too big and have no aesthetic appeal... they lack elegance. I'd much rather buy a Porsche or perhaps save a little more money for a Maserati.
And $50,000 for top end FI 16x would not be a bad price, one I would contemplate buying.

Where they would rival the GT-R in performance is the weight.

I need four seats regardless of how useless or useful they are.

I've never been a fan of BMW or any of the "Luxury Brands".
I just feel like I'm paying a lot of the dollars for the emblem on the hood vs. what the car can actually do.
That said an M3 is a fine performance car but it's overpriced imho.
That's what I like about the GT-R you get about 150k performance car for under 70k new.
It's like the RX-8, give it a BMW or Audi emblem on the hood and it's easily 40k+

It all depends when you are in the market for a new car. If you are looking to buy something right now, just get what you want now. If we see another rotary car, I'd be willing to bet it will be 2-3 years after Mazda actually reveals the concept which they have not done yet so if you have your eye on something else now, you might as well just get it.
I bought my '04 new and I've actually held on to it longer than I planned because I was at first hoping for a MazdaSpeed 8 and when that didn't happen I was then waiting for an announcement for when the 16X would be in a production car and since that doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon it looks like it is just time for me to move on to another brand for my next vehicle. If you want the GTR now, go for it.
The 16x is still years away...unless Mazda is hiding the biggest secret in automotive history behind closed doors...and with today's media, that is nearly impossible.

hmmm buy the real car or the not real car?
lets see.......
do you like the real car?
can you afford the real car?
is one of the real car for sale nearish you?
is the price of the real car near you a good price?
if you answered yes to the above questions but you are still leaning towards the not real car- just have a friend of yours smack you in the head because you need a reality check.

i beg to differ about the m3 i have a friend who is pushing almost 650 out of an e92 and that thing is a beast and the end price for the used car plus mods ends up a little under the gtr and its just as fast and IMO sexier but thats just my opinion

I don't know, but I would need brain damage to give up a clutch pedal... GT-R is a freakin' disgrace without a real transmission.
