yea, they're awesome trans and some shift faster than any human can, it just undoubtibly takes alot of fun out of sports cars, I mean nothing gives me a bigger hard on than shifting me rx8 at 9000 rpms, chirping the wheels and going. Idk, I guess its newer better technology but I'd rather use a shifter than chrome paddles on my steering wheel! Just my preference

All of the shift-bang-chirp will still be there.
Its just your left foot that will get lonely.
I will not buy an autotragic car.
I'll build my own car from scratch before I stoop so low as to ignore my left foot.
And don't give me that BS about using my left foot for braking in corners.

Think about it -
The autotragics are just as fast (or faster) as anyone can be in switching gears, the gears are getting to be nearly identical to the manuals in both ratio and number, they allow the manufacturer to eliminate a production variation which reduces costs, it will lower development and tooling time, reduce vendor costs and allow for a single EPA rating for a model.
If Ferrari, Porsche, etc. can convince people to go with "Tiptronic" trannys, so can Nissan.

It's like saying fastfood burgers are going to make all other types of burgers nonexistant. There will always be people that enjoy a big juicy burger that takes longer to cook just like there will always be more people that enjoy MT transmissions. The market for MTs may continue to get smaller, but there will always be MT cars avilable for sale that cater to enthusiasts.

I agree completely. So many times have I been tempted to jerk it while driving (I've never done it don't worry) when I was driving with an automatic. My right hand was barely doing anything. And nice avatar MM.

What do you mean? Its already happening.
None of the "middle of the road" vehicles are even available with manual transmissions any more - the Europeans are finally getting used to the idea and they were the reason manual transmissions are even available as an option today. Try getting an Avalon or a Maxima next year with a manual.
The next Evo will be the last with a manual as will the current crop of Subys.
When the S2000 goes auto, that will be that.

"Enthusiast" cars are moving upscale. The OEMs are realizing that the "cheap" performance car needs to be real cheap (ie the new Hyundai) to be viable.
The market isn't driven by "enthusiast" vehicles and the combination of emissions compliance, gas prices and utility are making them unprofitable at the middle of the market when the bulk of manufacturing is targeted.
To keep costs in line, production variations need to be kept to a minimum. Autotragics make this possible.

I actually believe porsche will shortly offer a real-time autotrans comparable to the current ferrari box in 09 for the Turbo, GT2, GT3. The tiptronic offered now is great for straight line but has been quoted as awful for track purposes (wrong gear choice, rpm lang, etc.) The new ferrari trans (430 scud) solves alot of those problems and porsche knows it.

Destroying Threads
15k into power only for rx8 would be very interesting, but then ur car will become........lets face it........a ticking bomb of destruction, the braking is great on the 8, but I highly doubt it would be able to save your life.........

all I can say to you I GOOD LUCK! every dealership is only gonna get two to start then just like with the ms3 they have order and wait and wait and wait and wait you get the point. Plus the mark up on the is expected to be in the 120-130k. But if you can get it I am eternally jelous. My boss is on the waiting list for the GTR, this is what I hear from him.

How is this being a RX-8 Forum or not make any difference to what I said?
Regaurdless of him being a member or not, he's still debating which car to keep, and he's not alone, people constantly compare the 8 to othewise obvious choices...
There's a guy that claims he could have bought a ferrari with the money he's spent on his 8, the sad thing is, he probably does too considering he's done two engines swaps, a modded renesis and the engine from a supra.
Are you saying that if these people DIDN'T come to rx8club that they wouldn't still be stuck trying to make the same decision?
Because I was in a toss up between getting an 8, 350z, WRX, etc...And I still chose the 8. And it wasn't because of the "warm" welcome I got from this forum that was the deciding factor!
