No 2006 model RX8?

My dealer just talked to area rep. Just got out of a meeting. Mazda is weighing it's options on not having a 2006 model. They are dead serious on NOT having a 2006 but coming out with a late 2007 model. Nothing is being done for a 2006 as of now. All of this is from very reliable sources. So it may be a while before we see a new RX8. NOW ZOOM44 do you want to close this thread out too? This is good info for all RX8 owners wanting a new car........

They skipped '98 for the Miata and instead released the redesigned '99 a little early. I seem to remember reading that the RX8 is due for a minor facelift for '07, so maybe Mazda will do the same.

I can't believe that they would not bring out a 2006. wouldn't they already be in production for the early 2006 release?

oh geez, when will you guys learn...

There is already significant information to prove that there will be a 2006. Would you like me to post the picture of the 2006 that I STOOD NEXT TO @ Sevenstock?!

So your dealer talked to an 'area rep'. Yeah, that's reliable info.

Please stop making these threads. There are people on this forum (including Zoom) who are much more informed then your dealership.

I heard that they are getting rid of the suicide style doors on the 8 in 2006, in favour of a tent style door with a zipper for easy access.

I can collaborate everything MDRX8 said. My dealer called on Monday after talking with the Mazda rep who said they might not come out with a 2006 model. The rep went on to say that as of now the next model year is tentatively scheduled to go into production the first week of February. This means 6-8 weeks after production before they show up over here. I have to admit I'm very confused as to how Car and Driver can award an 06 RX-8 top sports coupe and people have seen 06’s at sevenstock, yet Mazda is saying there won’t be an 06 model. Can anyone please shed some meaningful light on this subject as I’m sure there plenty of interested people like me waiting to buy the next RX-8 model.

Although mazda has made a few pre-production models for the 06 it doesnt mean they will produce it. For example, ford back in 97 discontinued the thunderbird, but when they did it they already had a production model ready for the 98. The 98 had an upgraded engine and a minor facelift. Also an svt version was in the works supposedly with a supercharged 4.6 engine. But that didnt mean anything, they still discontinued it. And they sold almost 70,000 units in 97. All Im saying is that no 8 in 2006 is a real possibility.

This is bizzare (and also just heresay as I'm not the one in the know), but I just took the car in for service yesterday and I was chatting with the owner and in the conversation he said something about possibly not having an '06 RX-8. Said he told in some meeting w/Mazda they should start advertizing the car so they can sell some or just stop making it. I was a bit suprised but just passed it off as talk... but with all this.... I wonder is there something brewing....

Here's an absurdly wild theory to go along with the absurdly wild rumor: Could it be dealers spreading misinformation to move their (vast) remaining '05 inventory? They're already giving them away as it is. Can you imainge the pressure to get rid of the remaining '05 cars if there were a bunch of '06s on the lot?

Unless you're banking on the fancy automatic, you might ask yourself if the little key thing really that cool. Is it $1000 cool? $4000 cool? You can get a really great deal on the '05s right now.

believe me i do find it odd and disconcerting that we cant find out if production has started or not and when it will if it hasnt. there is aobviously some delay as i mentioned the otehr day but findign what that delay is is more difficult.

xeres how about a dealer name? pm me if you have some reluctance to say in public.

Then how come they are not in production right now. If they were it would be 6 to 8 weeks before anyone would see them. So your looking at Feb? Toyota is coming out with a 07 Camery sp in March. The rep said Mazda is really at a loss on what to do. And there is no action being taken on the 06 RX8. Hey I was ordering mine 06 when the dealer made the call to the rep. We were picking out options colors etc.... He has NO RX8 on his lot so why would he lie to me. Now maybe they will change there mind. But as of now it is a no go.......

Any of you girls get a look at the VIN numbers of the new color cars at SevenStock? That would definately tell the story. ...Seeing that *6* as the *tenth digit*.. well anyway.. Would it really matter if they didn't bring out an 06? ..Maybe it's a good idea. Step back a bit, solve some of the issues, do a facelift, start a serious advertising campaign. Do what you should have done with the starting/flooding issues before the car was launched... Since July thru October is the traditional launch time for new vehicles.. except with Mazda.. Enter the market again with an 07 car.. better, refined more reliable, more powerful.. in say.. early spring.. Do it 100% right this time.. The bean counters see the sales numbers.. maybe it's time for a second chance...
