More useless fuel to the fire

Tonight I finally delivered my tray of cookies and a gift certificate to the tech at the dealer that works on my car (shameless *** kissing I know) and I mentioned that the RX8 won Car and Drivers 10 best list again this year. He beams with pride. Then I asked him when "he" thought the 2006 would be on the lot and everyone from the counter workers to the porter looked at me as if I were crazy and in perfect harmony stated "There will not be a 2006 RX8!" OK so with this disclaimer on the C&D Best list qualifier "Eligible cars must also be promised for sale no later than January 2006, and the manufacturer must deliver an example to us for our evaluations. Vaporware, in other words, need not apply." they must have one somewhere. How about first non SevenStock USA sighting wins a prize

I wonder if anyone knows what is going on with that car! Suzanne from Customer Fulfillment told me she already knew what vehicles were going where, and that at the time I inquired with her no vehicles that met my criteria were scheduled for delivery in Oregon, Washington, or California and said dealers couldn't do orders yet and only the MAZDASPEED dealers were preslated to get cars. She facilitated my order and got the specs changed through my dealership for one of the cars going there and she seemed confident of the late January arrival of manual RX-8s to the U.S. and said early to mid February on automatics. She was also the one who quoted build dates to me. All I know for sure is that they are currently building RX-8s. Where they are going to or when they are coming here is still apparently a big mystery, even to them if different people quote different dates. (Got this info over the phone after initial email).

I also agree with the Car and Driver thing. Isn't it fraud otherwise on the part of Mazda to state something is going to happen in order for them to win an award, and then after winning not deliver as promised? That is purposely misleading on their part, especially if they new before the December 14 date of Car and Driver announcing the winners that they couldn't deliver as promised. That would have made them ineligible to win.

I am wondering if they are holding them back for some reason. Maybe they have a problem with the new automatic transmission?

Car and Driver said something in their article also, which was the same as told to me by Suzanne, that there were changes to the automatic due out in February.

This all is fitting with the the schedule I was told.

I have recontacted Mazda to see what they will tell me this time. My friend in Italy said the 2006s just arrived at his dealer there, not that it's helping me any! He said he was surprised though because his dealer had told him before that they weren't getting any until March. Apparently that was wrong, too.

Good News

2006 RX-8 should be in showrooms in Feb. or March with power upgrades and Auto Tranny enhancements. Hopefully, that means more torque too.

Yeah. That was pretty close to what I was told. Except I was told since I went through MAZDASPEED dealer mine would be here sooner at the end of January, which was when they were expecting manual transmissions to arrive, automatics in February.

I think you should realize that the Mazda factory in Hiroshima that assembles the RX-8 is going flat out to supply...as the new MX-5 is off the same line, some Mazda 2s.
The world wide demand is so great at the moment that Mazda are hiring again, for workers scheduled for 2007!....

They have just announced that the MZR engine plant is to be expanded again to cope with the 1.8 and 2.0 litre engines used in 3 and 5 and Mx-5.

I know this does not help RX-8 buyers waiting, but I am positive that you guys will get new stock before March, they will be the latest spec 8's. Who cares what MY it will be, they will be the latest available.

I am also positive that the Autos will be the new 6 port/ 6 speed, more HP and Torque.

Its not great when you hear different advice from people even at Mazda.
I would go with what MNAO tell you.
A Dealers-Retail Mechanics are the last to really know...

You have to get stock before March, as the factory shuts down for annual union strike, to settle workers/employment issues, which used to be 12 working days.

I get different info from MNAO. I sent four or five emails to them explaining my order and when I was told to expect it initially, and each one came back answered by a different person today, with a different answer! I was told summer 2006, spring 2006, no idea when, and expect my same schedule. I need to get ahold of the person I got my info from before, but they are on vacation until after New Year's.

I contacted my dealer today and he said he is running into the same brick wall with them for everything he has on order and not just the 8s. I was told there were six other vehicles on order with Mazda (special, not just regular stock waiting for) and some from two months before and he can't get info from them, which he said is really unusual that there is this problem. He figures they are just really hectic right now and that is why everything is so mixed up and they are giving all kinds of different answers. He figures it is just wait and see what happens since there is no straight answer going around at this time.

I was also advised in one of my emails that it takes four to six months to receive a special order, and was then quoted people ordering RX-8s in January 2003 and not receiving them until August 2003, which technically makes a lot of sense since it was a 2004 model year car!

I emailed back that mine was just changed specs on one already in building line (not one added fresh from scratch that wasn't previously being built), so it stayed in its same slot, just hadn't actually started building it yet, as with the other ones at that time. Originally quoted around 10 weeks to arrive since production was nearly started (back on Nov. 22). I received the reply back that it would start arriving "soon" when the others did.....no idea when. How is it SOON when they have NO IDEA WHEN???? Duh!

Thanks MNAO!

I am waiting to find out if I can get my VIN number to have it traced to get a better idea of ETA, which would narrow it down to a two-week window, allegedly.

With these people, who knows!!!!

yeah, let us know when you do get it. I dont expect it to be before March.

I would really try calling Mazda and ask to speak to someone who knows exactly whats going on. I have spoken to the general staff there who answer and they are pretty clueless about most things. Keep going up till you get an answer.

But as I said most ppl on this forums (some with good links to Mazda) seem to have reached a consenses that the 06 RX-8's wont be out till March or later. Now Mazda of course want your buisness so they might just be playing you by telling you that an "order" has been placed on "such" a date. This of course is no guaruntee that anything is going to be build. It all depend on the mother plant in Hiroshima and their schedule.

I would start taking names down esp. of Mazda reps who promised your car would be ready in Jan.

Lets hope for your sake Jan doesnt turn in Feb and then into March and April.

Just to let you know though a trick dealers usually play is once you start getting frustrated that there is no 06 on the horizon and since you have put down money on one, in Feb they could tell you to just buy an 05 since there really is no big difference (excect in the auto's) and that they could get a great deal for you, butif you have to buy an 05 in Feb you could just get your fix and buy it now.

Anyways let us know how this develops.

The sales manager at my dealer said he expected to have updated information after the first of the year since so many people are off on vacation at MNAO right now, which is why he thinks he is having difficulty checking on any of his orders.

I got a sort-of update yesterday late afternoon when I was out doing errands (didn't check voicemail until this morning). Allegedly, they are supposed to start shipping a small quantity out the first week of January and to expect them to start showing up at dealers approximately four weeks from initial shipping date. However, this was relayed to me by the same person who said "soon......no idea when." I also got another email that quoted early 2006. I guess the question to get answered is what do they consider early 2006? Maybe they all got together and decided that was a good answer!

I just checked the Mazda Australia website (news), and the word there is that the new Shinka II and, new 2006 colours will be available in Jan 2006, so I guess that you guys will have new stocks around the same time. Hope this helps a little.

PS: Just had a great Xmas Day!

Thanks!!!! It seems the closer we get to when we were told to expect them to start with, the better the news gets that they will be here around then. I think maybe they were worried they wouldn't make it and have the cars ready by then and now it appears that they will so they are being a little more detailed in the answers.

Last year around the first week of March I was looking at 2005s since I happened to be with my mom when she was getting an oil change and having an oxygen sensor replaced. Well, for some reason that took four hours!! During that time my mom figured since we ran out of stuff to do nearby (fabric store) we could have a salesman show me the RX-8. I ended up talking to him for two hours about it. I told him I wanted to get it for my birthday and he got the sales manager to ask if he knew when the 06s would be out. He said he was told late release, anywhere between mid December and late January, at a recent meeting with Mazda.

Looks like they will make it after all!!!!

After reading the Mazda Australia website, it appears that there is a 2006 RX-8. There are a few minor modifications to the interior and few more new colours. Unfortunately there is no 6-speed automatic transmission as ealier speculated.

I have it on high authority that the RX-8 has been discontinued. Too bad, so sad, but it was predicted by the Mazda mechanics here.

Also, the Mazda USA website still lists the RX-8 as a 2005 model, while all others are listed as 2006 year models. The CX-7 (due spring 06) is to replace the Tribute as well, though it looks as if the tribute will see one more model year (2006).

No hope for the RX-7, IMO. The rotary is dead.

We were just at the grand opening this past Thursday of Avondale Mazda.
Avondale AZ.
They had all of Mazda's big wigs from Irvine Ca. Mazda Corp. HQ.
They were talking to all us RX-8 owners on how we liked our cars. They made no mention of discontiuing the RX-8. Talked to my dealer ship today and they say that they are expecting the 2006 models in about a month or so. end of Febuary begining of March. The 6 speed Automatic in about June or so.
Will be waiting to see.

Actually the Mazda website does have '06 models listed. Go to "search inventory", then on the drop-down menu under "vehicles" it lists the '06's.
