Non-biased comparative review Mazda Rx8 04 Vs Masdaspeed Miata 04
This is from felipe- I aggree with some points here
To start I just want to state that this review is from a neutral point of view, the 2 cars that I am reviewing are owned by my friend which I drive quite often if not daily. At the beginning I wasn’t too crazy about Mazda since I had some bad experiences, so that why I wasn’t crazy about either of the cars.
Design (looks)
In this area I think we can all agree that the Rx8 has a better body style. The rx8 has more of a new-age feel to it. How the body molds around the wheels and keeping them steady. Also how the front end Slopes down and gives the feel that you are the driver and point me where you want to go. Now the interior it has a non-plastic feeling the doors and controls have a heavy feeling of being solid. The lines of the Mx-5 speed are simple and classic it has the roadster look that reminds me of older roadster designs. Mazda could have gone a little more extreme but they didn’t. The Rx8 had the Mazda speed spoiler that gave the car a great rear end look and gold rims that really accented the winning blue color of the car. On the other side the Miata body is one that grows on you the racing heart rims look great on the car and the Mazda speed suspension lowers the car a little giving the car an aggressive look, the body kit that is simple but it accents the car extremely well. The front of the car has the small intercooler that in a way its kind of funny but I think is one of the icons that makes this car unique to other Miata.
Interior
This is another section where the 8 takes over, in my personal opinion the 8 is more car 4 seats, navigation control, Radio controls in the steering wheel, outside temperature, heated seats, Cruise control, and a lot more space. In an over all conception you get more car with 8 many little details that the Mails to have due to supposedly due to weight issues, and cost. On the other hand the Miata interior fells like a toy car, very compact I am 5,9 and I think anyone taller than me would have issues in this car to fit. In the Miata you get the 6 cd changer, Bose music system that you don’t get in the 8. The 8 only gets one CD player. The main factor you get to go topless which in my case it sold the car I really enjoy convertibles my self I own a Saab convertible.
Engine and Tranny
Well to make it simple the Miata beats the 8 by far. By starters the gas mileage in 8 was horrible we only getting than 16 combined MPG. In the Miata we got up to 24 combined. Second the car feels much faster and much more responsive in the Miata you can easily pass cars in 6 gear, in the 8 you where forced to shift to at least 4 gear. The Tranny is so much more engaging and it has more of a feeling of strength. With the rx8s tranny it would grind very easily in 2nd gear and had to be replaced twice for the same problem. Then the turbo factor that’s is by far the fact that makes this car so much fun. The car seems like a little bullet you can be cruising and just downshift next thing you know your going 90mph. Mazda number claims the 8 being faster but it sure doesn’t feels like it. On the eight I had a huge disappointment when a non-turbo street civic raced us and won like by 2 cars difference very frustrating. On the other hand last night a bmw 330 was really surprised when found himself beaten by Miata, it was a lot of fun people don’t expect the car to be that fast. A small thing to add the Rx8 lived at the dealer; I never owned a car that had so many problems in my life. Like what Rx stands for rotary Experiment I would not own one until gas mileage is resolved and its problems almost cease to exist
Handling
No dought about this the Miata out handles the 8 by far, the thing is amazing that Mazda speed suspension really works good. But just a little heads up at the time when we got the car I was sick and had problems with my kidneys and it made it impossible to ride in this car since the car is really rigid, if you suffer from your kidneys please do yourself a favor and avoid this car. The handling the 8 is very good for its size and weight but the suspension is a little soft and does not dampening, as it should. Also the car came to high from factory. The rx8 is a great Auto x car because of its gearing and high Rpms. Which is what the MS Miata lacks is the higher rpms.
Fun factor
Well like I said before the 8 is more car, the Miata seems like a toy car so be sure that you will have much more fun on the Miata, but then again if you have a big family you wont be able to fit them in the Miata and you can still have fun in the 8. While driving it I could get the rear end to break loose but it was harder to control it with throttle. The Miata is very easy to control at the limit by just using its throttle.
Bottom line
In my case I seem to like the Miata much more than the 8, to start it is nice to know that your going to supermarket and wasting 3 notches of gas on the way there. To go topless in this car it’s a lot of fun, the top goes up and down in mater of 5 seconds, unlike my Saab like 30 or so. The MS Miata is very quick and it’s a sleeper people don’t expect that from a Miata and its fun when they get they’re *** kicked. On the other hand the 8 is much more comfortable much more space and the looks are amazing no other car in the market has the dramatic body the 8 has, I give credit to Mazda designers for creating a nice body, and gorgeous interior. Two different cars and different kinds of owners but if you happen to be a single person looking for a fun car then Miata is the way to go for its fun and great miles per gallon.

I smell troll.
2nd gear is fine. Only grinds if I don't feed it enough clutch. It's the same gearbox, only difference is the leather boot and shift ****.
"far better?" Rx-8 is B-Stock, MSM is C-Stock. I think I'll go with SCCA's judgement. I guarantee you given drivers of equal skill, the 8 will lap a given track quicker than the MSM.
Another armchair critic. No offense. There's a million of 'em.

Far as engine, sure the rotary gets poor economy, but this isn't an economy car. The 8 has a higher redline, makes more power, is a much more unique engine, hands down it should have won this part of the review.

And thats me, a former Miata owner who loved my Miata. But even the MSM beating an 8 in engine, tranny and handling...shaaaaadup!

2) the miata does get better gas mileage than the 8, but 24 mpg isn't exactly "great"

I thank you for taking the time to reading my review. I was just stateing some points that i have noticed while Danny let me drive his cars.
It does not mean that the review is true or false as I am not a car engineer. It was just a review that felt like sharing. I dont mean to offend anyone.
