Hi guys, I'm looking at getting an 04 high model rx8 pretty much, tomorrow... And I just need to know, as a car guy with no previous knowledge of the rotary motor, what should i know before getting this car... I've been trying to tune an 07 hyundai accent for the past year and a half, and I have to admit I've come a long ways... but I'm sick of the limitations and am purchasing this car out of the true desire for a real sports car.
I read a few online faqs that said the rx8s have a few common problems (most of which were caused by people treating them like any other car, which is why I'm here asking this question lol)
What should I look for on the car before I buy it, and is there anything else i should know, just so i dont put it in first to drive it off the lot and blow the motor instantly?
Just joking on that last one...
Any help is always appreciated thank you.

You might want to consider not buying the '04, it is a first year car and has the most problems. My '04 has had the transmission and engine go out at 45 and 48k.
However there are some simple rules with the Rotary that you should know, and you can learn more by doing a search. However here is a summary:
Don't turn the car off while the engine is still cold, you will flood it because the gasoline will not burn off in a cold engine and that will disolve the oil causing the car not to start.
Don't drive it above 4k until it is warmed up, a good way to take good care of it.
The Renesis carbs up easy, so you need to redline it and drive it hard.
This engine meters oil into the chamber every so often, so you will need to check your oil level every 700-1000 miles or so. If you have a foamy white substance on the dipstick, that is okay and is normal, just drive the car hard and that will go away.
Keep up on maintenance, these engines are sensitive to that.
Finally, you may want to consider premixing or changing your oil grade to something other than 5w20. You can read more about that on the site.
Any questions?
Enjoy the car!

Hopefully you can save up some money and get one some day. Maybe it's a sign you need to read more up on the Rotary before you get one
