Noobie from Socal!
Hi guys,
I'm new to the RX8, but I've owned a FC GTU a few years ago (the car that made me first get to the track). I'm currently finalizing the few things (like smog and a leak) for my Miata before it goes to its new owner. Lots of hours tinkering on that thing and I just needed a more a grown up car that's still fun to drive.
I was originally in the market for a '08 Evo X. Unfortunately, when the time came to finalize the deal (due to my credit situation), I was only able to get approved for a loan amount of $15,000. Which would have made me make a down payment of $15,000 - I was going to get the Evo X GSR w/ SSS package for $30,090 OTD at South Coast Mitsubishi.
Being so bummed, I focused my attention to a car that was neatly tucked away in their garage at SCM. It was a trade-in (military guy who did two tours to Iraq....hence low miles) for Evo. The car dirty as hell from not being washed, but I can clearly see that there were no dings, scratches, and the interior was very clean.
We took the RX8 on a test drive and I was hooked! I used to own an AP2 S2000 with a 8200 rpm redline. This car's redline is pure ridiculous
So after the experience.....I got an '05 VR RX8 Touring 6spd MT with 21,000 miles on it for $15,000 OTD.
I put down $5,000 and financed $10,000. Not only is the RX8 more comfortable than the Evo but it has: lower payments, insurance is cheaper, and it's just a better bargain and a way for me to build up my credit.
So the first thing I did......I took the car to the Mazda dealership and had them re-flash the PCM for the latest updates, replace the foggy tail lamps, fix the center console latch, and replace the coolant reservoir (I was getting those intermittent low coolant warning lights).
I'm very happy with my purchase and it feels like it fits my point in life right now the best. I'm 25, work full-time, and coming from a raced-out Miata with no AC, no PS.......this car was a HUGE upgrade!

epikeddie: GRATS, you have made a very wise decision!
This car really is the most bang for the buck out there. Take a look around, there's a bunch of meets in this area and we're already making plans for SevenStock! (I assume you know what this is due to your 7?)
welcome to the club. One more SoCal owner.

I'm VERY familiar with SevenStock.....I haven't been there in a while though. I just love being back in a rotary....my old 7 gave me quite a bit of joy when it was working, but also a lot of headaches when it didn't.
I'm just glad I have warranty on this thing so I don't need to worry quite as much.....just enjoy the drive!
I'll definitely check out the Socal meets! I've been going to KINOD only these days because of my Miata lol

Also, don't forget to check out the West Forum to see what's going on in the area!
Happy Motoring!
