30k miles and unfortunately I can not find a rattle. I turned the stereo off yesterday on the highway looking for one but nothing. I might take some bolts out so it rattles. Not sure yet.

Oh, I just recently drove to Vegas and keeping it above 70 for most of the trip got a measly 21mpg. Boo.

Right around Memorial Day weekend, I did two driving trips with my RX-8 - one unplanned out to Iowa and back (700 miles round trip) to the funeral of a family friend (nothing like having a bright yellow sports car in a funeral procession!), and then onwards on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend to Indy for the 500 (400 miles round trip.

For that 1100 miles, i burned 62 gallons of unleaded premium which is right around 18 mpg, my typical crusing speed was between 82 and 88 mph indicated, depending on traffic, which is a true speed (per my GPS) of 79 to 84 mph. That's perfectly fine in my book.

And that is serious fun cruising at that speed!

On the Indy run, going there I got hooked up with a "pack" of performance cars and we ran at 100 mph+ down the left lane - I abandoned that idea when we started bunching up on traffic and it got a little too "Talladega" for me, but hung with them for a good 25 miles, which went by in only 15 minutes!

OK, I posted my humorous post, seriously the only issues I have with my RX-8 is a slightly-out-of-round wheel which I need to replace one of these days - Mazda won't warranty it as they say it's road damage, which, I agree with as it wasn't that way at delivery - I'll pick up a used one here on the WTB/WTS forum, and a driver seat that creaks in cold weather. I can live with that one - not a big deal. The car completely rocks otherwise. It's never flooded once, I used to have issues with long crank times, but the dealer replaced the battery with the high-juice version and that problem is now long gone too. Lot it!

14,386 miles and only 4 complaints:
  • I have been waking up on time and can't seem to miss a day's commute to work!
  • I have even been taking the long way home through one of the curviest 2 lane mountain roads in my area.
  • People look at me as if I were piloting a UFO.
  • As Stew similarly commented, I cannot seem to let dirt sit on the car, so I wash it daily and spend extended periods of time looking at it at as many angles as possible.

'04 with 42,000 miles and NO flood. Have had misfire CEL and got spark plugs replaced with no questions asked. Have had a few interior plastic items replaced (just cause I am picky and she is my perfect baby). Definitely visit the dealership every couple of months (oil changes, etc).

Love this car, would not trade for anything.

Only 2500 miles on my silver 05 GT 6-speed, but not a single rattle, squeek, or problem. Engine is smooth as silk, brakes are impressive, shifting is easy and fun, handling puts an enormous grin on my face, rear seats have proven very useful. This car looks super cool and creates an incredibly smoooooth driving experience. Oh, and women check me out more, too.

18K and I'm still waiting for this CEL thing that everyone brags about getting. Apparantly my car didn't come with this. I need to call the dealer about ordering one.

No problems, still drives and rides great, no rattles or unusual noises, original tires still have LOTS of wear left, no CELs or other error lights, clutch, brakes, electronics all working flawlessly, and getting acceptable gas mileage (17/23). The radio works great, the back seats hold spare folks for the 'Lets get some ice cream' road trips!

And about those rear doors.... Some folks think they are a wierd idea? I LIKE them. So does Toyota, since they used the same design on their new FJ! They work great!

Recently took car in for standard service and oil change, mentioned a no start condition to the service techs that my wife had told me about (which my wife then told me after the fact was because she was adjusting her seat at a stop sign, slid back, killed the engine, and then tried to start it without engaging the clutch: driver induced safety-related no-start), and the intermittent brake squeal which I can't hear anyway because it is above my audible range, and that I had a non-start condition once in my driveway once due to driver error, probably SLIGHTLY flooded, but was able to get it started after a half-hour wait time. Mazda replaced starter, plugs, and battery, turned the front brake rotors and replaced the pads, all under warranty! WHOA! ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM! This thing now starts like a champion ready to run!

Also having the problems where I am just not able to wash it as many times as I want to, and for an inexpensive car, it gets more positive comments than any Corvette or Ferrari I have ever driven!

Last problem I am having is not finding nearly enough twisty roads in Jacksonville Florida. BUT, I think I found a temporary solution to that: We have TONS of new neighborhoods being built, where they create the roads MONTHS before they start selling/building houses. Empty, twisty, hard turns, zero traffic, non-public roads with fresh asphalt!!! Basically go-kart tracks with no other people on them. WHOO HOO!

I LOVE THIS CAR!

Today begins week 2 with my 8 and my biggest problem is that I occasionally am forced to get out of it for things like work and sleep etc. But just so no one gets the idea that I'm totally easy to please, I'll bitch about the one annoying thing I've found. You can't put anything on the front passengers seat next to you (change, CDs, papers etc) without it immediately ending up on the floor behind the seat. Searching for your "vanishing" CDs while reaching over the console into the back seat passenger floor is a real trick at 75 mph! And yeah I know.....I'll stop putting my **** on the passenger seat! ;-)

ROFL! Actually my 11-year-old likes that feature because it's much easier to find the spare change that slips out of my pocket and slides straight onto the floor in the back.

: Great post NYer! I hope I hit some of the high K numbers w/o problems. 4k on mine, no problems except the "sports car" related ones described by Stew. Otherwise, my only real issue is that the state troopers here in RI absolutely LOVE hanging out on one highway stretch of my daily commute. Mazda needs to work on that one.

Thanks a whole lot.

My car used to be perfect, and I used to occasionally post these "in case anyone was wondering, my car is just fine, no need for thanks, glad I could help" posts. But now they aren't funny, not funny at all. I am abso-fricking-lutely furious that a 1 cm by .5 cm spot of paint has now rubbed off of the shifter ****, in plain view of anyone sitting in the passenger seat, RRRrrrRR! THEN, a fricken grommet that holds the plastic engine cover fell off somewhere. Thank GOD the dealer noticed it at an oil change and replaced it under warranty. Damn engine cover could have rattled loose, fell in the pulleys and, well sh*t, the whole engine could have exploded! I really worry about the engine exploding now because it's so close to the cabin, I mean, what if it explodes??? It's two feet from my knee, three and a half feet from my man-parts! I ain't lookin' to have my car make knee and man-part hamburger on the interstate!! And GET THIS- 31000 miles, and I had to buy new WINDSHIELD WIPERS. Who the f*ck designed this car anyway??

that sucks, it happened to me recently and is getting worse by the day. i guess it doesnt bother me too much though. hopefully passengers can see it is "wow this guy loves to drive, his shifter **** is wearing out" instead of "wow mazda makes cheap shifter *****". i love the look and feel of the ****, but the paint SUCKS!!!

^^lol. This thread is dangerously close to ruining my panty bunching hissy fit mood. As usual, my commute to work this a.m. was uneventful; aside from the humdrum daily grind involving at least one long stare from some passerby at the coffee shop, followed by the big smile I get opening up my 8 on the open sections of highway.
