Not Seeing New 2009 Rx-8 on Dealer Lots
Hey Everyone,
I'm looking to get an Rx-8 in September of 2010, but I'm a little confused. I'm from New Jersey and haven't seen any of the New Generation 2009 Rx-8's on the Dealer lots.... Does anyone know when they might become available? I still have a little bit, but I wanted to check them out.
Is Mazda waiting for the 2010 models?
Thanks,
Renesis
P.S. I posted this also in the NE Regional Forums.

Dealer around my area has a couple on their lot right now. One in the showroom and one out on the parking lot.
Due to the economy the dealers are probaly not putting in to many orders for the rx8's as their not the best selling car on the Mazda lot.
Plus too many rotary amateurs give the rx8 a bad name in reliability. And most of your sales man don't know the true difference between a rotary and a piston engine. They just see dollar signs in your eyes. And they don't know the strong selling points in the rx8 besides...
"This is a awesome looking car and it has 4 doors!! Cheaper on insurance so you can speed away!"
[if your male] "All the girls will think your hot stuff if you buy this car"
(You ask, so what about the performance spec's and how is the handeling on this car?) Sales man says hold on just a minute. Runs to his desk to grab the Mazda booklet.
After a couple minutes of reading he says "It's fast and has a 9k red line, what a sweet car!"
So you take it out on a test drive and say do you mind if I take the tac to 9k? Sales man says "NO, its bad for the engine to rev it so high. You can blow a rod if you don't shift at the right time...." lol... My personal experience. I can say that dealer did not get my business due to the low informed n00bie sales man. The sales guy would'nt even drop the price of the car because he insisted it was a Ferrari for the average joe to afford.
Sorry for run off there. I just got worked up again.

Haha good story! XD. I've considered other cars for when my lease is up, but I always keep coming back to the Rx-8, it's something about it. I'm even looking into the R3, but I don't even want to know the monthly payments on that

Service department is also pretty up on rotaries. I see a fair number coming and going when I bring Zoomy in for his oil chainges.
On the original topic of availability - It's my understanding that all manufacturers have cut production, and that dealers are letting inventories run down. Just working supply and demand to get the sales prices up. Hard to demand a high price for anything if the lot is overflowing.

That Jersey dealership is very smart.
RX-8 is one of the poorest selling sports car today, period.
Bad thing for the dealerships, but good thing Mazda North America, as there won't be as much negative feedback on those surveys from the general public that bought the car and not knowing the maintenance that rotaries require.
After the first generation, I truly applaud Mazda's continuation of the rotary despite pitiful sales number and the amount of money they spend replacing/fixing the Renesis engines.
With that said, Don Miller Mazda in Madison has 4 RX-8s in the parking lot, and one in the showroom, that have been there for a few months now.

My dealer experience (Rosenthal Mazda-Nissan, Tyson's Corner, VA) was very different. The sales manager's car was an RX-8...that's what I took my demo ride in. The salesman was also pretty knowledgable about rotaries...maybe because he was a motorcylist and appreciated good machinery.
Rosenthal is a great well known dealer with extremely knowledgeable staff. Their service department is great too. Also Heritage has some decent sales man but also have some that are really bad. But the local dealers around my way were just horribly dumb.. But every now in then you would get lucky and find someone who know's what their talking about and performed their research on what their selling. But in my experience in shopping for cars. I've mostly always knew more about the car than the actual salesman did. Due to my massive research on things before I buy.

The first dealer I went to flat out told me I couldn't afford the car, before they even saw my credit history or anything. Needless to say I went somewhere else and got a much better deal than they were offering and didn't get treated like a red-headed stepson.

Longgg Time I know
September 2010 is a lonnng time from now, but I wanted to do as much research on the car as I could, even though I know it's still over a year away. September is when my lease ends.
I'm thinking about ordering one directly from the factory, especially if Mazda might not have them on the lot by that time.
Also the next Rotary could come out by than
