I'm thinking about ordering one directly from the factory, especially if Mazda might not have them on the lot by that time.

Also the next Rotary could come out by than

Well, for next year I think the "next Rotary" will be the different colour selections.

Well, since it's long time, you might be looking at model 2011. There's a chance the direct fuel injection rotary is ready by then?

Bad thing for the dealerships, but good thing Mazda North America, as there won't be as much negative feedback on those surveys from the general public that bought the car and not knowing the maintenance that rotaries require.
After the first generation, I truly applaud Mazda's continuation of the rotary despite pitiful sales number and the amount of money they spend replacing/fixing the Renesis engines.

With that said, Don Miller Mazda in Madison has 4 RX-8s in the parking lot, and one in the showroom, that have been there for a few months now.
I might consider taking an R3 off their hands come the end of the year if the price is right. They aren't going anywhere. Hall Mazda in Brookfield has 3 2009's , including an R3, and also 1 2008. They aren't going anywhere either.

Even if local dealerships don't have the one you want, they will get it from another regional dealership.

That's true, all this information helps even if I have to wait for the Rx-8 for awhile. I'm hoping Mazda won't come out with the next Rotary for awhile.

As Snickle said, it will probably be just the colors because I heard somewhere, Car and Driver maybe? that the next Rx won't be out until around 2011 or 2012.

I'll keep my eye out for the 2009's, I heard they had one at Ramsey too, but I drove into the lot and didn't see any I'll guess I'll have to try again in a few weeks lol.

Thanks for the information guys, it helps in my "early" browsing for a car next year, even if it's just for fun, the Rx-8 is looking good!

So you're saying California is 15 years in the future? They have hydrogen refuel stations there

I hope not. The RX series needs a redo with a stronger engine. It's being left in the dust, regardless of the fantastic handling.

The next rotary isn't due out until 2012. The 2010 RX-8 should be out though.
