I know what you're talking about. For the longest time I thought it was abnormal.
You really have to listen for it and it's not THAT loud. When I got my transmission replaced the sound was still there. I realized that it was just the way it is built.

Sorry but what is synchro break fluid? Which does the '8 use and how do your change it? Thanks for all of your help guys and thanks to SayNo for starting this post, I had been wondering.

Just installed my Axial SS and it's great.
However, I (also) have the issue when I shift into first, it makes a 'clunk' sound. This only happens when the car is at a dead stop.
Just wanted to confirm that this is indeed normal. Anyone know the cause?

if you push in the clutch, wait at least 10 sec you should not hear the sound.

But I shouldn't have to wait at least 10 seconds to begin with? I'm perfectly fine with the 'clunk' if it doesn't cause any tranny damage. However, that begs the question as to why there is this issue with the Axial SS in the first place (and obviously none with the stock tranny)?

stock would do the clunk sound.
