NYC Owners- Question

NYC Owners- Question
I know theres not to many NYC area owners out there, i still have not seen a RX8 around my area. It got me thinking, the RX8 is definately not a NY type of car, Through all the Hondas and Nissans the car stands out and demands attention, and ive only been keyed and scratched up maybe..3 or 4 times!.But theres a bigger issue, My gas mileage has been consistently dismal.
11.233 MPG
9.890 MPG
10.844 MPG
10.333 MPG
This is mostly city driving where theres a stop sign and light at every corner, with engine #2 after #1 had to be replaced.Am i doing something wrong? I've convinced myself to accept the fact that im going to get bad mileage unless i move to another state... If theres ANY NYC owners in this forum reading this, HOW'S YOUR MILEAGE?

Manhattan 6 speed GT here.
I don't have the L or M flash yet (maybe this week)- which I think will help with mpg, but yes currently I am getting about 11 or 12 MPG in pure city driving. Highway maybe 18 or 19.
Have you had any flash? I am also getting the Camzoomer stage 1 this week - which I think leans out the upper end as well, so maybe things will improve.
Too bad about the keying.... I have had no such problem and I often park on the street at night for a few hours at a time in the east village and other areas, with no vandalism. It is those times I am glad I got the titanium- on a dark street it doesn't jump out at you, but of course look great in the light. My only problem is people getting out of cabs letting the door fly open and into my car. THAT is a problem!!!
I know there is at least 1 other manhattan owner here- Kgunny- I have PM'd and emailed him to try and see his Mazdaspeed body kit- but have gotten no response. An auto trans owner lives 2 blocks away from me, but I wasn't interested in his mpg.
Also you should definitely get 3M coating on the front and rear bumpers. It really protects it from other cars tapping your bumper- even saved my paint from a sidewipe - and of course from rocks on the highway. Highly sugges- www.Xpel.com makes the kit and Monster coatings is the local installer in queens (jersey office too)
If you ever make it to the upper east side give me a shout out!
I check my PM's.
I'm also looking to put together a small group buy of remote (hidden) radar detectors, and maybe even rent some track time as a group. Interested?

Is it safe to say that theres less than 20 RX8's in the NYC Metro area? i think theyr all out in LI!.I remember you since you were a member before me and i considered you to be one of 3 or 4 8 owners in Manhattan, But in Queens there must be none other. Which dealer did you get it from?..What does the flash do? i had my engine replaced 2 months ago so i dont know which version i have. Im going to take mines in for service because i dont think the AC is working right, what could i tell them to get the update?. There are alot of immature little a-holes around here and i got badly keyed on my driver side door, i have to see this every time i open the door to get in, youve been lucky, Im guessing its different in the village- naturally...I only went to the city twice with this car, i still have trouble leaving the car alone for long periods of time. Also i went with the AT for reasons that should be obvious, how is it driving an MT in the city anyway?.The radar detector i might be interested, but with my AT im not sure if theres a point taking it to the track though, is there?.

Hi emaillists,
Glad to hear you have a new 8.
I have been driving into the city 3 to 4 times a week except over the winter, I am just now going for my 3K oil change at the dealer and will also get the L or M flash done.
For me, mixed suburban, LIE and NYC driving I am just now beginning to see my milage creep up from 15 to 16+ MPG.
I, in no way do any WOT's or the like but I do not baby it either.
I hope the flash imporves MPG a bit.
I have not seen any other 8's in NYC yet, however.
Love the car, driving in the city or wherever for that matter.
We be the few, the proud and the happy! RX8 owners that is.
My 2 cents,
Claude H.

I'm in Queens... I've only driven to Manhattan once... still afraid to parallel park in the city because others around you don't take care when parking... and I don't want to park it in a garage either since they might flood it... Luckily I haven't had an bad experiences so far... sorry to hear about the keying complex, if that happened to me I'd be so pissed..

I'm telling you- any urban 8 owner that paralell parks MUST have the 3M coating. I backed into someone (something I do only once every few years) and tapped the bumper- no marks.
the sutf really works- I used to get tons of marks on my PRobe GT bumper- which I imagine is quite similar.
As far as parking on the street- at least downtown I feel safe. Upper west side is a differnet story.
But there are so many hi9gh end cars parked here, the 8 will not stand out like "oh- rich f***k- key me."
of course the biggest worry is getting parking tickets if you dont read the signs carefully- but I fight those by mail and get out well over half of them (at one point several years ago before they changed the tickets I was 9 for 10!!!)
