OBD II Software

OBD II Software
A while back I purchased an OBDII tool for about $125 that included software (From www.obd-2.com). While it worked great for reading my previous car, I'm wondering will it be able to work on the RX8.
Granted I don't have a laptop with a serial port (And am going to order a serial->usb adapter today most likely)
Anyone with experience know if the hardware itself will pick up the proper info? (It has 5 pins shown in the pic below) Which are then routed to connect to a rj45 network cable.
It seems pretty straight forward if i need to add more pins (up to 8 i'm assuming), but then software becomes an issue. My previous software didn't allow me to write any modifications to the ECU, just clear CEL codes and record data during 1/4 mile runs etc.
Is there any software out there which can be downloaded free or cheaply?
Thanks.

Check the documentation that came with your tool to see if it is CANbus compatible. If it doesn't say that, chances are that it is not compatible with the RX-8 OBDII system. You could also contact the company that made the system to ask about CANbus compatibility.
