Obligatory "I Got My 8!" Post

Hi All,

So I got my new 8 last Thursday - 06, Phantom Blue, touring package, AT (shuddup!) Broke it in today, taking a road trip to the coast. Driving route 23 through the Santa Monica Mountains was a huge kick. I was going as fast as I felt wise with the family in the car, and the 8 never even got close to its cornering limits. Admittedly, I'm coming out of a '91 Celica whose suspension was shot, but I've never felt such tight control in a car. I luuuuv it.

The bad news? First warranty repair is needed, as my sun visor came apart down the center. I see by a quick forum search this isn't exactly rare. Anyone know if Mazda has an improvement for this?

Anyway, I just wanted to add how much help this forum has been in deciding on this car. I've been a member since last November and come to browse almost daily. My thanks to all the members, and especially to Zoom44, who kept me up to date on when the 6 spd ATs would finally arrive!

welcome aboard bro! Although i'm sure you were expecting the flack from those MT fellas out there, that was definetely a good idea to wait on the 06!

That sure musta been nice to have some moutains to take a spin in RIGHT after you got it! I'm almost at 3K, and this august will be my first time to really play in the mountains down south of us (Kentucky, Tennessee).

Enjoy yur 8....sure sounds like you already are though!!

LoL. I'd have to say that's a first ever.

I absolutely love emotion that follows a turbulent thrust everytime an auto shifts. It makes the ride experience more "fun".

VERY ironically, about 2 minutes ago...I just saw a nissan maxima commercial that focused on something called "shift-shock". The commercial showed a woman putting on lipstick while accelerating under full throttle, because you couldn't even tell where it shifts due to their new transmission techonology with "shift-shocks".

Guess they never got the memo.

I just got my 8 last week.

(not to jack your thread or anything)

But it seems like there were some recalls on things. Some issues to look out for. Brake pad squeeling. Tire *wowing*.

Can anyone point me to a thread that goes over these topics?

What are some of the first things I should get checked out etc. etc...

I didnt know what to search for. It's kind of a broad topic.

All I'm asking for is a link.

Thanks all!

Not all sun visors are created equal - the new one will probably work fine and should still be under warrenty. Yup AT are also so fine (did you get the wheel flips so you could slip out of automatic and play at stick driving?).

We can tell you love it already! I am making the same discoveries - and you will just keep finding thing to love - these are really special machines!

By "wheel flips" do you mean "shift paddles "? And don't they come on every AT 8?

OK, lessee...

No pics yet, and now the car's already a bit dirty. Will have to do this next time it's washed, but really it's a stock touring pkg so you can probably picture it...

AT shifting is quite smooth on the freeway, which is how I like it. On the uphill twisties, you could definitely feel a jolt when the car downshifted, though. I haven't gunned it off the line yet - I'll baby it until 600 miles. Like all ATs I've driven, it tends to jump from gear to gear on hilly roads, which is slightly annoying, but I've just started playing with the paddle shifters, and I can see myself using that mode most of the time except on the freeway.

I was taking it in Thursday to have some dealer supplied options installed anyway (MP3 player, Sirius, strakes), so they will fix the visor then. No biggie, but couldn't they have at least used a couple of screws when they designed that? (Yeah, gotta wait for the strakes before taking pics anyways.)

As for the clubs, usually I'm not much of a joiner, but this sounds kinda cool and the Glendale location is close, so I might do! Plus, Bob's Big Boy. Yum.

Thats because it uses Nissan's CVT transmission. There are no gears no shifting just two cone shape pieces and a steel belt. It's about as smooth as you can get as well as a tad boring.

Anyone else find it odd that a company that uses the tagline of "SHIFT_" is releasing a CVT? The car won't even have any gears to shift!

Congrats on the new car!! Good choice too.

Handling is excellent. I have a friend with an STi which is just amazed that my stock 8 has the same cornering speeds at his STi. So enjoy.
