Obligatory new owner post
Picked up a Winning Blue 6-speed with the sport package from John Hine Mazda tonight, looks like there are a lot of us here in San Diego. In love with the car, can't wait 'til the motor is broken in. Btw, car has a spare tire in it (I didn't order one, yet there it was), anybody interested in it?

yo winter, congrats! welcome to the club and great work on a free spare. Check out the West forum; we're getting together in La Mesa Saturday nite. Come on by and let us drool over your shiny new car.

The new RX-8 replaces a 94 Accord that we drove for nearly 10 years. I looked at cars for 3 months before selecting the RX-8. Actually, the the RX-8 was selected 3 months ago, and it took until last week to rule out cars from every dealer in the area. I was very tired of the 94 Accord look, and seemed to see it "everywhere" I looked. The RX-8 issues (mpg, flooding, 1st model year, etc) were the primary concerns, and the rx8club was a major factor in resolving each issue -- THANKS -- this is a great forum.
I picked up the car on Friday, about 4 hours into the latest cold snap, including inches of fresh snow. It has four 17" Pirelli Snowsport 210s from Tirerack with Mazda tire pressure sensors. It drives very well in the snow. Saturday, after driving the RX-8 for ~30 minutes, my son and I exited the RX-8 and immediately entered our 98 Honda Odyssey. We were shocked by the difference; it was akin to the experiences described in the amusing "Ruined by the 8" thread.
Well, time for more RX-8 cold weather testing!

I have put 180 miles on it this weekend since picking it up. But snow is here tonight so it is garaged until the dry roads appear.

From the various threads, it looks like it can be tricky to find and assemble the winter parts, then get the summers off, and finally get the winters on. Mine had some complications along the way, but the car was ready as scheduled.
I bought my tire sensors at the last minute from a local tire dealer that had purchased them for another RX-8. Reportedly the other RX-8 was totalled in the snow before the new winters were ready.
The RX-8 is my regular car; I have 230 miles on it since I picked it up late Friday.
