Odd A/C Issue.

Since its becoming summer up here in NY now, gotta start turning on the A/C. Odd issue came up.

the day I actually received delivery of my car, I tested out the AC (it was about 70 degrees that day), and it worked awesome! However, that was really the only time I tested it.

About two weeks ago I was on a road trip and driving down the highway and decided to test it once more. It would only blow out hot heater air (mild warm-hot air), I was sweating if it blasted full. The temp **** was all the way cold, and AC button light was on as well as the head units AC light.

I thought it was just a fluke so I never had it checked out, and there were only cold days after that so I didnt get to test it more.

This week has been all hot and I decided to try again. Same thing happens, only blows hot air from the vents. Now my first thought was that I needed to recharge the freon, but I've heard that usually if the freon is low, it'll blow SOME cooler air, but not just straight hot heater air. It just seems to be like the temperature dial isnt working or something.

Has any one had a similar experience or have ideas? Should I try recharging the freon first or just take it to the dealer?

Can you hear the A/C clutch "cycle" on and off?

Wrap the AC line in the engine bay with thermo wrap, it'll help.

I take it you mean the fan that kicks in when it starts up? (im not a pro with a/c's). Ill have to listen for it next time. I need to sit down with it in a parking lot while not driving and listen.

I googled and saw that some people said resetting their A/C system worked for them. Ill try that when I get off and work and go from there. (I guess you push two buttons in while cycling your ignition setting, and the rear defroster led will flash. Apparently that means its reset).

If not I'll have to bring it to the dealer, because I dont feel comfortable doing much else outside attempting to refill freon. Its just whenever I bring it to ford they end up breaking something else lol, but free is free and you get what you pay for.

not the same issue, but randomly even with the vent closed button, randomly while driving hot air will just start pouring out of the vents. i have to turn the ac on and then off to get rid of it.

That sounds exactly like my issue. Im gonna have to test that A/C level increment thing and see what happens. If so I'll have ford repair it.

well cornholio thank you very much for the advice, that was EXACTLY the problem.

I can make it work however if I push in the dial hard and turn it to cold. It sometime stays, or sometimes just goes back to 14 automatically. I'll bring it to them and let them know exactly what the problem is. If they wont fix it I'll try to deal until I can afford to do it myself.

Dude, it took me about two hours to fix start to finish. Unless you have absolutely no technical skill, it'll save you a lot of money. Soldering iron's are $10, and can be easily found.

Mine usually happens when the weather is hot. After a couple of miles driving it, it will eventually goes back to normal, if not, there is a problem.
