Off to a good start...
The anticipation had reached its peak. After attempting to seal the deal on Thursday but refusing to settle for the dealer's offer of 5.9% on 72 month financing, I walked away (walking slowly, mind you, and looking over my shoulder with every step just KNOWING they would chase me down and relent to my demands of 4.9%). Much to my dismay, I reached to exit door alone. So Friday my wife finds my 4.9% at a credit union and gets the ball rolling. Disappointed that they can't finish the paperwork in time for a Friday night cruise, I settle for Saturday morning. After a virtually sleepless night, I arise early Saturday and do some more reading on this newly found website, watching the minutes slowly tick away as I wait for the credit union to open. So finally I make the call to hear.......they did not start the paperwork and "don't do it on Saturdays." Heartbroken, I sit in stunned silence for a couple hours until I realize I won't make it until next week. I call the dealer and he succumbs to my sympathy plea and grants me 5.2%. I can make the sacrifice of 0.3% more interest (since it is only 6 years' worth ) if it means getting the car today and tell him I'm on my way. I throw on my yellow Fox racing shirt so my attire won't clash with my new yellow RX-8 and the deal gets done. I slide into the driver's seat, push in the clutch, crank it up, slide it into reverse and.....pull forward as I stall it in 6th gear . So I restart it, push the shifter all the way to the right, slide it on back into reverse and.....slowly move forward in 6th gear. I look at my 12 year old son and we both look at the gear shifter..1,2,3,4,5,6...R . I use both hands this time, push the shifter ALL the way to the right, slide on back into reverse and.....slowly pull forward in 6th gear. About this time another customer walks behind the car and starts waving me back, thinking I need a little direction...I push the shifter all the way - well, you get the point by now. I roll down the window and the guy walks over and says, "Oh, my son has one of these. You need to push the shifter DOWN and push it to the right to shift into reverse." ......Let the learning curve begin... :D

It sure was a fun first day after that rocky start. My 12 year old son and I went to the KISS concert in New Orleans and had as good a time getting there and back as we did at the concert (which was unbelievable, by the way). I only took it up to triple digits once on the way home, and just for a second. While the lack of torque is evident, I'm amazed at the fun you can have in the higher gears on this car and the high revs are cool. At least a dozen times throughout the day I had to walk outside and just LOOK at the car as it sat in the driveway, and it looks better and better each time. I was actually really undecided a few days ago as to whether I wanted to stick with my current note-less vehicle or jump into another big car note with the RX. After stumbling onto this site and reading everyone's enthusiasm, that is what pushed me over the edge. Big thanks to all of you!
