Angry Off to a great Rx-8 start...

Hey guys, i have been watching these forums for years, and only recently joined up lil while back. I have always wanted an Rx-8 since '04 but could never afford one... Being 22 now, not rich, and in college, i have been stuck with my first car for 4.5 years. I do miss that car though... my good old 1996 Mazda 626...lol. Damn tranny just had to go at 105k.

So i figured hell, u only live once. I went and looked for weeks upon weeks at new cars to lease or finance used. Looked at Tiburons, WRX's (live upstate NY), 09 Lancer's, and my fav, the RX-8. After test driving all of them (which was useless after driving the rx8 for the first time), i settled on the 8. Yes the WRX was faster and it had AWD, but it just didnt feel the same. The rx8 styling was so much nicer, and the handling + "fun-factor" was so much better. BTW, this was early december 09.

I used auto trader and found a few 8's in the tri-state area. I drove around the city, to albany, and jersey lookin for 8's. Spent 200+ is travel costs alone. After the long anticipated wait, i found one in jersey. 2004, Velocity Red Mica, 14k miles, Grand Touring fully loaded. Sunroof, Navi, the works. Private seller asking $14,500. It was his mid-life crisis car, 2200 miles a year weekend grocery shopping. Always garaged. Not a scratch or ding on it. He said i reminded him of his son so he gave me the car for $13,750. My godmother lent me money since i couldnt get a loan, so im paying her back like a loan over the next 3 years. Carfax said he was original owner, no accidents, no nothing. Clean as a virgin.

I brought the car back home. And treated it like gold. I already had so many things in mind that i wanted to do to it...lol. But it all had to wait until late spring when the weather got nice. Time to save.

I live in upstate new york, just moved 1 year ago from NYC The Bronx so all my friends + g/f of 5 years are still here. Plus i work in the city so im currently living at my friends house. It kills me to park this beauty on the street but i dont have a choice. Anywayz, i have washed and waxed my car a few times already. Mainly upstate in my garage, but once outside in the city when it was 50 degrees. I know every inch of that car, and there is not one scratch on it. MINT.

I stayed overnight at my g/f's house sunday into monday... parked in her driveway... figured i would keep it off the street. We had a nasty storm. The neighbor's storm door blew open, metal pieces including the glass fell on top my car.

I cried.

I brought it to an auto-body... a friend of my g/f's father. He said the scratches are deep and the whole passenger side, roof, hood, needs to be repainted, possibly the driver side door too. Passenger door window needs to be replaced cuz the glass gouged the window as well. The metal pieces dented 2 spots on the roof and passenger suicide door.

The owner of the house rents it out. The tenants have been complaining to the landlord to fix this door since the summer (i didnt know about it). Now i have to go through this guys homeowners insurance... god this sucks.

Hoping for an awsome intro on these forums.. well, this one sucks with suckage news. Here are some pics.

This is the car after a 4 hour inside outside detailing. Pic is kinda dull, but i had an iPhone camera and we havent had a nice sunny day since i have had the car.

This is the glass on the roof of the car... At this point i already cleared most of the glass elsewhere... by hand...

It looks like my car has "crows feet" all over it now.

Nice car, either way. I bought my car with the roof and part of the hood having really bad fade (it was almost white, car is winning blue). Got it painted and it looks spectacular and makes me appreciate it even more.

Welcome to the forums. Hope you get all taken care of. You well love her even more after all is good and well. This is just a trying time in your relationship and it will only make your bond stronger... I know when mine was almost stolen, I felt violated and just lost. I did not know how to to trust her alone without me. I started to get parinoid and jelouse and questioned every move she made and every call and... oh... sorry.... Too far I guess...

Too bad your 626 kicked the bucket. I still have my 98 that I commute in, but I might give it to one of my brothers. One kinda wants it for himself and the other wants it to give to his girlfriend... Neither of them will take care of that car like I did...

I'm not sure if my car is jinxed or lucky. I had a young salesman who just loved cars and loved to race the new cars on test drives with customers. Coming out of the car lot, he tried to gun the pedal making a left. He didn't see the Jaguar on the right cause of the sticker price paper on the passenger window. Good thing we caught it and told him to stop or else our potential car and that Jag would have had major damage.

So we bought the car and went to get lunch. Parked on the street and as we were entering the restaurant, I see this huge work truck backing right into our brand-spanking new car. I had to yell at the top of my lungs to get the driver's attention and make him stop his truck. The trailer hitch was a mere 5 inches from my passenger door.

Congrats on ur 8. Have fun! You got one hell of a deal.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the warm welcome. Im gonna try and get the whole car painted and not just the parts with scratches. Bumpers and skirts are untouched, so is the driver side rear panel/fender and suicide door. Might as well paint the whole car though since 75% of it has scratches now. Such a stupid problem caused so much cosmetic damage...

So far over the last 8 weeks owning the car, ive put it to the test on the cornering. My god...lol. Its like butter. If anyone is from NY and knows the Taconic State Parkway, they know some of the corners im talking about. I even slid out at one point pretty bad pushing it too hard around a corner rated at 25mph... doing 58..lol, but it effortlessly corrected itself. Old all season tires on cold asphalt with salt residue. Should have seen it coming. Its like its a privilege every time i drive her. The next several years we will bond to each other like liquid nails and... anything else really...lol.

BTW, its stick. There's no other way to drive baby! When it is fixed i will put up new pics. Still havent figured out a name for her.

Well we are talking to the neighbor tomorrow. If he doesnt want a louisville slugger across the knees , he will make this go as smooth as a baby's bottom. The insurance should cover whatever the owner of this auto-body place says needs to get done to get this car to its original condition.

BTW, this is a close up of the top of the passenger door. All the white spots are scratches. Picture that all over the car.

Sorry to hear. We have an identical RX8, right down to the navi. Also purchased as a "mid-life crisis car". Hope all goes well with the repairs with your rx8, and nothing happens with my RX8 since it's mint also.
