Official Word From Mazda!!

I would like to add my thanks to IBFUBAR2000.
Also, I have a question. Haven't some of the cars already traveled by rail to places like Midlothian, TX? I'm in the Dallas area and wonder if the cars were being inspected in Hueneme or Midlothian. Just curious

It would be interesting to know if the "by hand" inspection would continue for the remaining 2nd and 3rd allocation. That would be awesome if Mazda would continue this service. I for one wouldn't mind an extra week of delay if I know my car is being checked thoroughly.
I wonder why Mazda doesn't utilize the Pre-Order program to inform ppl, granting the Pre-Order needs a lot of debugging. I would think that this is exactly the type of info we all would/should get via the Pre-Order Program. But we know how that went...
In any case, thanks FUBAR.

Its good to hear real word this time! Thanks Fubar and Mazda. It sure won't hurt to have another paycheck in the bank when the 8 comes in.
I think the preorder program may be a bit green, but this is definitely the way car sales should be heading - directed more by the factory and less by the dealerships. The more the factory tips the dealers hand through publicity about pricing, options, rebates, inventory, (hopefully someday specific dealer incentives), the better things get for the consumer, and the manufacturer ends up with better control over their product. Now if only I could buy factory direct...

Thanks ibfubar and Mazda. Oh Mazda Guys, you can just make an account and not publish your email address. As for PM's, I think the board software allows for the box to be inactive. So post away. Last thing, could you guy's let me know an approximate date as to when I can put in a pre-order for the 4th gen RX-7?:D

I really want to be sure to thank IBFUBAR2000 for his great work keeping a lot of folks who were getting really negative or at least anxious about their car situation sane. I think he really should be in line for some kind of customer service award from Mazda. (Hopefully the phone call did not start out with, "what the heck were you doing?")
At the same time I need to throw the BS flag. Nice story guys, but I don't buy it. Certainly a team going over the cars by hand is awesome and I'll suck up a week or two delay to have that happen. I'm very happy to have it happen, but that doesn't generate the type of delay we're seeing.
If you're smart, you inspect 10-20 cars (don't know truck capacity) going to a destination and get them out the door. We've got reports of trains leaving and they probably did those first if the port options were already installed on them. if the port options weren't installed an inspection would have been pointless. it needs to be done after all the options are in place.
Think about it, we've been told 1/2 the story, not the whole story.
The only possible justification for holding all cars until a inspection on all cars is complete is that they may be learning from the inspections, then having to go back and reinspect from observed events. After 1000 cars you find a strange issue that you haven't seen before and realize your check list should have had one more step. Oops, time to go back and recheck those 1000 again.
I don't buy it. There's another reason. You can all be happy and feel content, but it ain't right. This is a true story that's a diversion to keep us from freaking out that Mazda (whether it's Mazda USA or the parent company) wants to roll out a lot of them all at once across the US instead of allowing them to hit as soon as available.
IMO many people could be sitting in their cars right now with just as good an inspection.

By the way, if you wanted to give out the official word, use the pre-order mail info system. Mazda should be due at least one free e-mail from that 509 VIN screw up. If you wanted to fix that system, send me an e-mail that's plain text, tells me my VIN and shows me a JPEG (not hard to do or automate) of my car on the assembly line, my car at the dock, my car on the ship (with ship schedule) my car on the port getting it's options, my car on the truck on the way to the dealer. Stop jacking around with no info for long periods of time and then sending me some dressed up garbage that references a movie that's been out for 2 months.
Great car, great spirit, worst customer relations known to man. Every Mazda dealer I've been to but one has had bad customer service, bad vehicle service, and I'd never buy from them again. God I wish somebody like Hyundai or Saturn had a car like this. They'd be unstoppable.

I'm sure everybody is brimming with excitement now. I myself did not place an order for the car yet. However, I'm glad that Mazda actually read THIS FORUM. They should pay more attention to this forum for customer feedback instead of solely from their dealers. I say eliminate the middle man!

if Mazda would just force their dealers to be respectable, there'd be no stopping them. as it is, i thought a long time about whether i really wanted to continue my Mazda experience. There's really no alternative to this car though, so I'm over the barrel. I'll just have to drive 50 miles each way to get good service from a reputable dealer.

It's nice to see your 8s are arriving next week! on the other hand, my dealer told me my ETA is now"a few months"!! they told me to expect it by end of June when i pre-ordered, and now they say the first shipment is here but not my car!! and told me they definately can't get me an 8 within the next two weeks and have no clue when mine is gonna arrive! *sigh*

There may yet be some truth to Edge's post...
The way I look at it, is I'm in Hawaii.. We have only 3 main dealers here.. Altogether I have calcuated that this first batch total for Hawaii can't be more than 20-30 cars. (Personally asked each dealer what they're getting this time around) If they are indeed doing manual inspections, 20-30 cars should be a breeze.. done in a day or two, three tops...
We have no trucks or trains for transport to dealers, they just drive the cars to the dealers.. Our dealers arent more than 10-20 miles away from the ports..
If anything, us lowly islanders would have tasted the cars by now, but obviously something mysterious is afoot.
In another forum a guy who works at the Honolulu docks said one week he saw the bunch of 8s come in, the next week they were all gone..
Dealers all claim they don't have them...
Hmmmm.. they have GOT to be somewhere..
But ALAS... this is just speculation, and I'm still happy with Fubes info and (hopefully) can handle a few more days of restless nights... (honestly, how many of you out there can't sleep because of the anxiety.. and even if you do sleep, I bet the 8 is in your dreams.. ) Hehehehehehehe
