#26
I have used fram filters on all my cars ever and have never had a problem...and i change at 3000 miles....I think fram had a problem many years ago but i believe they are still up there with having good quality products

You haven't tried searching very hard. There are a zillion Oil threads here and many "definite answers."
For the cooler climates 5w30 and warmer 10w40 - 10w50.
Castrol GTX myself.

ok, well i have tried searching but have not gotten a definite answer yet, so just to be sure I'll just ask here for a straight forward answer
well, i have had my 8 for a couple weeks now and a couple gas station fill-ups later it seems like my oil level is getting low.
for starters, what kind of oil do i use? when i searched i found (Royale Purple) but then i find non-synthetic....
can i get a straight forward answer.. like what brand and so on.
also how exactly do i know how much oil should i pour in? or how should i know how much oil i need to add so i dont over-flow
-thanks in advance
(hopefully the flames wont cause global warming)

okay just to be sure one more time, (dont know jack squat about oil, so keep the flames down)
this is the oil i purchased at autozone
also i know your supposed to check your oil level every other fillup, but its been about 7-8 fill ups at the gas station and my oil level has remained high... is that normal?

A 5W-30 oil will be a little 'thicker' at operating temperatures.
Some people feel it would protect better, though a modern 5W-20 is a fine oil.
Personally, I use a 0W-30....

also does the weather where you live play a factor (ie. Cali/Nevada)

That bottle of Castrol GTX 5w20 is an excellent choice. It's the type and weight that Mazda recommends. Castrol is a reliable brand, and they sponsor John Force. It's what I buy.
Unless you're racing or have added a turbo or have some other special requirement, there's no need to use synthetic oil. In fact, there are a couple of TSBs floating around this site that show some nasty carbon buildup that Mazda attributes to synthetic oil.
Oil doesn't get used at a steady rate. It depends on how you drive. It's not unusual for the level to stay fairly constant for a while, then drop over the course of a couple of tanks of gas. That's why you should check every other fill-up: worst case, not average.
