Canola is good. Crisco works too, but you have to keep it warm.

kraji...don't take it the wrong way but (I was a newb once too) people are just going to either give you a load of sarcasm or flame you...in good fun. :D

Use search...alot of the topics have been beaten to death. From what I've seen, don't sweet the oil thing. Sure some of them our better than others but overall most of them do the job just fine. To be safe...just listen to what Mazda recommends.

only change it yourself if your comfortable doing so....its very easy but not everyone likes to do it....there are many places that can chaing your oil, not just the mazda dealer.

I would stay away from the quick lube places, but a good mechanic will do it for a small charge and you can bring whatever brand of oil/filter you want for him to change it to.

I like wix filters (pureone, napa, purelator) and for regular oil : Castrol GTX, for syn Mobil 1 or royal purple.

Why would you stay away from quick lube places? I've taken all my cars to Jiffy Lube, ne'er had a problem. Haven't taken the 8 there so far...

Jiffy Lube is THE WORST place to take a car... period. They are morons and can't even look up how much oil an engine needs properly. I went there once, will never, ever, ever go back.

My $0.02

ive had personal experience with friends that have had too much, too little oil put in the car. Filters that get changed to the wrong size, or dont get changed at all. Wrong weight of oil put in, mixing one weight with another when they run out of one. Filling with syn when you want dyno, or dyno when you want syn. Not tightening down drain plugs or filters. Leaving a sticky mess in the engine.

Not to mention all the clips and stuff ive seen broken when they change the oil. leave off oil caps, lose dip sticks....ect, ect, ect.

I wouldnt, and never have taken any car to a 'quick lube' place. I dont trust them.
