How often does everyone change their oil? Manual says 7500 miles, dealer says 3000, and I've seen 5000 listed in the forum.

 

The manual says 7500 regular service, or 5000 severe service.

Since an oil change only changes half the volume of oil in the oil system, I change it myself every 2500 miles, and let the dealer do it every other 2500.

i change mine every 3,000 or so. but for me it is easier since im at the dealer everyday anyway :D

 

Gordon, are you saying that the rx8 has mor ethan 3.6 qts of oil in it? The last tiem I checked the oil capacity for the rx8 was 3.6 qts and that exactly what I hav eput in when i change it.

 

oil capacity of a rx8 is 7 quarts. dealers only change 3-4 qts because most of the oil is in the coolers and lines. if you want to change all the oil you have to do a complete oil flush. (cost extra and takes a special machine to flush out all oil)

 

Like ibfubar said - that's the oil change capacity. The total oil volume in the system is ~7 quarts, but a regular drain/filter change only gets half the oil in the system.

Between the free service and myself, it gets changed every 2500 miles.

 

Every 2500 miles for me. As for the oil capacity- you can get over 5 quarts out of it if you jack up the driver's side during your oil change as I found out:

The dealer told me the first oil change was to be done at 2,500 miles and every 7,500 miles after that. Right now i have 1,217 miles on the odometer.

 

I do the same exact thing that Gord96BRG does.

I am the guy who had about a quart of black oil in my airbox and filter. Well I think I solved the mystery.......

Took my car in for it's SECOND oil change, to the same dealer.
I hear one of the 'mechanics' shout over to the other "How many litres does an RX-8 take?"
The reply was "It says here - seven and a half......"

I quickly shouted over to them "Three-and-a-half, if you put even four in, it will be overfull!".....DOH! Now I know how the airbox filled up.....

Let me ask you guys a question. How in th eworld can on edo a full oil flush from home? Gordon what exactly does it take to do it? And where does the excess3.4 qt's sit ?
