Oil drain plug sealing washer?

I just dumped my oil for the first time and see no washer on the drain bolt. I did not see one fall off. Is there supposed to be one? The bolt face looks like a sealing surface.

It is there.....

There is definately one there - it must be stuck to the pan.
The oil will not 'stay in' without one.

1st rule of wrenching on a weekend

Answer is: make sure you can still get parts if you need to.

I figured it had to have one. There is no way I could have lost it. I watched the bolt carefully taking it off and checked everywhere on the ground and the oil drain pan with no luck. I suspect the dealer lost it doing a prep since the vehicle was driven 178 miles to demo and they serviced it before I took it home. Figures, dealer parts depts are closed for the weekend. Happy ending is I had some crush washers for my old GSXR 750 race bike drain bolt that are fo the same thread diameter. Worked like a charm.

I appreciate this being allowed on the general discussion since it probably should have been in the technical discussion. I was a bit anxious to get some feedback. Thanks again.

Check your drain plug again. On my first change, the washwer was stuck to the bolt and was painted black...hard to see, but it was there.

Just finished the first oil change and I didn't see one either. It would have been too big to fit through the holes in my oil drain pan and I felt the oil pan for it and found nothing. It could be on the bolt I guess if its a very very thin washer. It looked like something there but I couldn't get it with my fingernail.

No worries, I see no leaks.
