oil light @1800 miles

If you're asking if it is typical oil consumption to only get about 1800 miles before needing to add more, then yes. Once you see that light, though, you've gotten too low. If you see that light, add some oil immediately....DON'T wait to see if it shuts off and wait a couple of days to see if it turns back on. Check the oil every 3rd or so fillup, so you never have to see that light again.

Did you buy from a dealer? Didn't they tell you the keep an eye on the oil level? Didn't they show you how to check the level and how to add oil? Didn't you read the manual?
The oil light is not intended as an oil level indicator: That's the job of the dipstick. By the time your light comes on you are very close to engine damage!

I have an 07 with 4500 miles on it, all since January of this year. I got the car with ~50 miles on it (drove straight from the docks of baltimore to my front door!). My oil light came on after barely 1500 miles. Needless to say, despite being warned about oil consumption, it made me uneasy. I added 3/4 quart, checked that is was *properly* full on the dipstick, then when about my way. My break in was a mix/match of those mentioned on this site. Regardless, I would say I had to add 2 - 2 1/2 quarts before 3000 miles!! Since my first oil change I have driven the car much harder, and the oil light has not reappeared, and visually, the oil level on the dip stick has not lowered appreciably.
So, I'm thinking the oil mix that comes in the car is for some reason burned more freely during initial break in. Don't be afraid to add oil, tho it sucks in a brand new car, and seems backwards I know. BUT, do NOT overfill. Be very careful. Also, keep a 2 spare quarts of Castrol 5w20 in the back of the plastic piece that plugs the trunk-pass through hole in the backseats...its the perfect spot!!

I picked up my 8 on 4/7/07 and just turned 2k miles... I've added .75 quarts...
Just bought a case of 5w20 and threw it in the garage.... I plan on keeping this car for a bit...
My goal is to keep that light from coming on!!! You should do the same!

This is and oil-injected engine, if it is not burning oil, then your in trouble. Please try to get ahold of the manual for the car, it's a rotary engine and the whole car is built around the engine. If you cant find your answer after searching, we will be happy to help you.
